They kept insisting Hugo needed more food to "stay strong."
Damian kicked them out, furious.
For the next month, Hugo was stuck eating bland diet meals—no meat, no cheats. Yet somehow, he gained weight instead of losing it.
"Do you think something's wrong with him?" Damian asked me one night. "Why isn't he slimming down?"
I shrugged. "Weight loss takes time. Be patient."
Inside, though, I was laughing. Caleb and Betty were sneaking Hugo greasy, calorie-loaded meals at school. No wonder the kid wasn't losing a pound.
