Light exploded from the medallion, emerald and gold, burning away the violet corruption as the seed disintegrated in my grasp.
The illusion collapsed.
My mother’s face shattered like glass, peeling away to reveal nothing but swirling darkness beneath. The Void recoiled, howling in fury as the ground split open, fissures racing across the wasteland.
“You would destroy a piece of yourself?” it roared.
I staggered to my feet, shaking, empty, and free.
“I chose my son,” I said.
The light flared brighter, the medallion sealing itself with a sharp, resonant chime. The Dead Lands went still.
