I scan the room and realize there are several of us here, each in our own cells. I try to talk to the wolf. "What's going on?" I ask. "Who are you? "I'm Adam," he says. "Who are you?" "I'm Marla." I think they were keeping us all in a cave, but then they put us in these cells."

Several dragons in front of the infirmary where the cells were located, turned and braced themselves as they sensed the same thing. The sounds of their fighting drove me faster toward the front steps. The doors swung open seconds before I reached them, and Luther barreled out, shifting in the air, over my head as he jumped. I crouched down and then felt Marcus’ hands pulling me into his arms. “I’m glad we stayed, but a drive to Georgia would have been nice today instead of this.” Luther’s roar broke my smile, and Marcus shoved me inside where several wolves waited. The selfish girl inside of me prayed this would end today.

He was then pulled away by his friend, who seemed smart enough to know it was time for a retreat. However, Anias paused halfway to their unconscious friend, and his bright yellow eyes landed back on Mara. “What about the girl?” he shouted. “Forget about her! We need to retreat,” his friend replied. As if to further dissuade him, the black wolf appeared in front of Mara, its tail swishing lowly in the snow as it gave a warning growl towards Anias. The feathers on its neck stood on end as it bared its sharp teeth at Mara’s captors. Mara’s POV When I slept earlier, I had a dream where everything I did when I turned feral replayed like a movie on a massive cinema screen. It was frightening. It was a war against the laws of nature. I never left a single spot. I lifted my hand, slid bottles of drinks off the shelves, and hurled them at Aldrich as if I were on a special mission to have him killed—no matter what. I even threw a dagger at him. If that blade had hit him, everything would have been entirely different. I would have murdered someone. Then the guards came. The maids followed. Even Evander appeared. I attempted to kill them all.
