The events of the last week drifting away as I got lost in her. It killed me how distant she was, and now that she's let me back in, I'm rooting my feet so she can't push me back out. I wouldn't survive. I slowly released her lips and rested my forehead on hers. Amelia's breath was labored, as she swallowed the lump in her throat. "The milk", she gasped, turning back to the stove to remove the pot of boiling liquid.

It was pitch black. A chill ran down my spine. “Do you even realize the gravity of what you have done?” Elder Theron demanded. I remained silent. “Did Beta Calista inform you where she would seek refuge?” I shook my head. “I believe you are capable of speech,” Elder Corvin snapped. “No, Elder,” I answered quietly. “She did not.” “She should be beheaded,” Marek declared without hesitation. The word seemed to echo inside my skull. Beheaded. “N-no, please,” I stammered. “I truly do not know where she is.”

Dante held me as if I might vanish, but I no longer had the strength to push him away. Professor Shaw came to my side. “Aria, can you hear me?” I looked at her through the blur. “My baby…” Her expression changed, but her voice stayed steady. “We’re taking you to the institute medical center now.” As they lifted me onto the stretcher, Dante tried to follow. Professor Shaw stopped him with one look. “You had your chance to protect her.” The last thing I saw before darkness took me was Dante standing in the hall, covered in my blood, while the wedding ring box lay open at his feet.

He stared at me like he'd seen a ghost. Those were the exact words he'd said before shoving me off the cliff in our last life. Now I'd thrown them right back at him. His mouth opened, but nothing came out. He finally got it. The Kayla who'd loved him with everything she had died in that life. "Move! Doctors coming through!" Several ER doctors rushed over with medical bags. The lead doctor quickly cut open Tristan's pant legs. One look at the damage, and his face turned grim. "Both lower legs are shattered. The blood vessels and nerves are completely severed, and the tissue damage is too severe. Get him to the hospital now."

“You’re still alive! You’re safe, Sir!” Marcel lay still, and Nana left the servant’s room almost running. “I’m ... alive?” muttered Marcel as he blinked his eyes repeatedly. “How come?” He clearly remembered that he had drank the chemical until it was gone, so there was no way he could have survived. I didn’t blame her; she must have felt like she had that strange wolf’s scent all over her and was trying to wash the feeling of the violation off her skin. I could only imagine what it must have been like for her to discover her home had been broken into after everything she’d been through.

However, he quickly forced a pitiful look on his face. “Xavier! Thank God you’re alive. I knew nothing would happen to you! When Callie drove the car away, it was because the brakes failed. We didn’t mean to abandon you!” Callie immediately caught on and nodded frantically. “That’s right, Xavier. I wanted to go back for you, but there were too many zombies. Look, we came back to find you, didn’t we?” As she spoke, her eyes swept greedily across the mountain of supplies stacked behind me.
