They’re here.” The door burst open and Grim strode in, his medics right behind him three men in black vests with medical patches, carrying gear that made our kits look like toys. “Where’s your worst?” Grim barked. I pointed at Matteo. “Here.” The medics swarmed him instantly checking vitals, cutting away his shirt, hooking him to portable monitors.

I look around quickly assessing the situation to make sure there are no more wolves around. ‘Two scouts down. No one else in the area,’ Reese reports. ‘Dante? Ezra?’ I look at Ranael and he nods. ‘Two scouts down. I could smell that he was upset and knew Scott could not be saved. He was only trying for our sake. But to our astonishment, Scott suddenly gasped for breath and regained consciousness. He groaned in pain as he placed a hand on his wound, his eyes fluttering open. The medic’s face contorted with shock and disbelief.

"Here, take this." The phone disappeared from his hand. Xander and I looked at each other, eyes wide. "Okay," he said and then gulped. "Now, hold your hand in front of the scanner. The corridors felt colder than usual, or maybe it was just my body reacting to the weight of the situation. When we entered the infirmary, I saw the scout lying weakly on the bed. His body was drenched in sweat, his face pale, his lips dry and cracked. His chest rose and fell in uneven waves like he was fighting for every breath. Yvonne was by his side, dabbing his skin with a wet cloth. She looked up at me, worry written all over her tired face. “He won’t last here,” she said firmly. “He needs doctors. Machines. Anything more than what I can give.”

All in their formal formation, whilst the medical personnel were busying carrying injured people from the side of the trucks.
