They were continuations. Fragments of the original Hollow King passed down through blood and darkness and memory. Each generation carrying pieces of the first weapon inside them. The loneliness. The hunger. The rage. All inherited. All engineered. Alaric looked exhausted suddenly. Not physically. Existentially. Like a man discovering his entire existence had been designed by monsters wearing divine faces.

The runes pulsed brighter, casting ethereal light across the ceremonial ground. “Do not cry for him. He was never worthy.” I clutched my head, rocking slightly. “Who… who are you?” I whispered inside my mind. “Your other half. Feel me, Aurora. Feel our strength rising.” The voice wrapped around my shattered heart like a warm embrace, easing the worst of the tearing sensation just enough for me to lift my head. Xavier was still standing there, but his expression had shifted from disgust to confusion as he stared at the glowing marks on my skin. Lila clung tighter to him, her smile faltering.

Professor Valtorius continued in a softer tone, "is the name given to you since your birth. You are the last descendant of the Blaise family's main line. That is why they sought you out and called you." Raven clenched her fists. "Who are they?" Professor Valtorius looked up at the now cloudy sky. "Those who wiped out your family. Those who wanted Blaise's power to fall into their hands." Raven frowned. "And this locket..." Professor Valtorius nodded. "It is the last remaining key to Blaise's power." Raven let out a long breath. Her head felt heavy with all the information she had just received. But before she could ask more questions, a loud explosion was heard in the distance.
