“I’m okay,” he said, and I saw Malachi wiping his eyes as he turned his back on us.
I laid back down on the floor, feeling drained and exhausted. Kiran’s hand was on my chest, then he was pulling me up, hugging me, slapping my back, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to laugh or cry at what we’d just been through.
“I told you not to come,” he said, as he held onto me.
“I could never leave you,” I said.
