One guy died last year," Simon said, his eyes shining with amusement. Harriet listened, but she didn't look scared. She was looking at her car, a simple silver Mazda. She touched it. It looked old, but she could tell it had been taken care of. The tires were good. The engine sounded smooth and strong.

Leave him out of this.” “Can’t do that,” the Shadow Boss hummed, circling them slowly like a wolf deciding where to bite first. “Dominik told me all about your pretty little angel. About the way you look at him. About the way you’d burn the world for him.” His smile deepened, sharp and amused. “I like when monsters fall in love. It makes them stupid.” Alessio’s grip on his gun twitched, the tremble barely visible. “Say what you want. Just don’t touch him.”
