Moon Burned Novels & Stories

I wonder if Lord Enorio would have banished me to the fringes if I hadn’t already chosen that place for myself—if I hadn’t already shown a preference for solitude. I glance up at the moon in the night sky. And stop in my tracks. The moon is supposed to be waning but still near full. The full moon was just a couple of days ago. Instead, it’s a crescent moon. Closer to the new moon than to the full. I don’t know what to make of what I’m seeing. I don’t know why it’s like that. But I do know that something is seriously wrong. The moon has changed. It’s not in the phase it’s supposed to be in.

"The Moon is undergoing a Total Memory-Leak! It's going to shed its shell!" As the Leidenfrost III blasted out of the lunar core, the Moon behind them began to glow with a brilliant, ultraviolet light. The "Dyson Shell" was cracking. The fossilized "Looms" of the Founders were being torn apart by the sheer pressure of three billion reclaimed memories. The Moon wasn't a satellite anymore. It was a Beacon. The Dawn of the Third Age Back on Earth, the survivors looked up to see the Moon "shining" for the first time in history—not with reflected sunlight, but with its own internal, indigo fire.

“three Winter Solstices ago, the family from that malpractice case cornered her there—under the blood moon. They used silver-forged blades, cut deep until her wolf couldn’t heal. When the bond broke, she screamed once, and then… she was gone before the healers could even reach her.” He paused, voice lowering. “The Elders said her spirit howled for one year before the moon claimed her. Her scent lingers because she died there.” Rowan’s brows furrowed, his jaw tightening with a pain he refused to name. “Don’t insult me,” he snapped. “She always had a flair for drama.” He pulled out his phone, the blue glow illuminating the hollows beneath his eyes.

It was red. Neoma stood in the center of the ritual circle. The pylons hummed, a low-frequency vibration that made her teeth ache. The air pressure was immense. Her ears popped every few minutes. Guller stood outside the circle. He held a bowl of water. It rippled, even though there was no wind. "The fragments have breached the Roche limit," Guller said softly. He looked up. The moon was there. It wasn't a distant white orb. It was a jagged, horrific collection of mountains hanging directly above them. They were so close Neoma could see the craters without a telescope. They blocked out the stars. They blocked out the dark.

But when the light of the moon touched me, bathing me in its silver light, I couldn't hold Umbra in any longer. At that same moment, I turned my gaze to Jin who had a wide grin on his face. Oh, did he find this amusing? "It's finally time. I can tell you've been trying to hold it in, but the moon…" He paused, turning his gaze to the moon hanging above us. "The moon is a bringer of transformations. From its lunar phases to its connection to the transformation of every werewolf on the planet. Even the witches rely on the phases of the moon for their magic."

"A fated mate is a pull you have towards someone. Someone who was made by the Moon Goddess just for you. As soon as you find a fated mate, most times the pull is so strong, your emotions run wild and boom, you're having sex 24/7. A chosen mate would be more of a friend, or significant other who you might date and decide you want to take them as you're life long partner. Fated mates are treasured and very important in wolf culture, though. Some people think that if you reject your fated mate, you will be cursed." "What if you have a fated mate but don't want to commit to it yet?" "I guess you could date and take your time?" "And what is a Moon Goddess?" "The Moon Goddess is our higher power.

I stare in awe as the man I spoke to yesterday and who I named, Moon lifts the moon once more. Yet, this time I was standing right by his tower. He did everything he did yesterday. This time the moon is in a waning crescent. Still, it wasn't any less magnificent. It was like an art. His body moved so perfectly and well-practiced.

Through all that, she has tried to think of the baby and not think much of her mate. Today was the day the Black Moon Pack was preparing to celebrate the Lunar eclipse, the only time when the show of the earth covers the moon and it appears darker. It is a full moon and one of the rarest ones where werewolves don’t get affected much. It is said that on this night they could ask for anything from the Moon Goddess and they will get it, no matter what it is.

The disappearance of the moon was not just an unusual event in the sky; it was a death sentence. The Purge-Moon, now revealed to be anchored in a hidden "Sync-Orbit" on the far side of the planet, started its gravitational sabotage, causing the Earth to groan. Tides retreated miles from the shore, only to return as towering walls of black water. The atmosphere thinned at the poles, and the ground beneath Aethel-Luna shook as the planet was forced to spin backward.
