"We wait. Let him come out of the shadows. Then we decide our next move." She nodded slowly, her eyes distant. “Okay.” All of a sudden — a strange warmth spread through my chest. Not painful. Just... there. I ignored it. "Are you feeling alright?" my mother asked, her eyes narrowing. "You look pale." "I'm fine." I sat up straighter, shaking off the feeling. "I didn't sleep well." She didn't look convinced, but she let it go. Then the warmth deepened. Turned into something heavier. My lungs felt tight.

Sometimes, I could even sense Howard's strong arms brushing past my chest. Heat bubbled up inside me, and without thinking, my legs clenched together. My chest was a mix of heat and pressure, and it felt like my whole body was firing up. "What's in this oil, it's so... whoa!" I barely got the words out when Howard's sudden squeeze drew a yelp from me. Howard's breath was a warm whisper in my ear. "Don't worry, ma'am," he said softly. "This warmth you're feeling is totally normal. It's just part of the treatment, helps you relax and eases any discomfort."

The pack members gasped, their eyes widening as the storm outside seemed to mirror the unease growing inside me. Then... it happened. A strange heat bubbled beneath my skin, spreading like wildfire through my veins. My breath hitched, my heart racing erratically as if it were trying to escape my chest. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, my small hands clutching the edges of the table as the sensation intensified. "Kaiden?" My mother’s voice was tinged with concern as she approached, her usual warmth replaced by a flicker of alarm. She knelt beside me, placing a gentle hand on my forehead. "You’re burning up!"

Unlike in Chaira's second life where she is still slightly affected after being given the chance to live and start over again, it seemed, her heart was already so numb she didn't even feel anything when her own biological mother stared at her with malicious eyes. The familiar warmth and care that should be present in every mom's eye when looking at their child, were nowhere to be seen. Maybe that's the reason why she doesn't care about it anymore.. Chaira slowly took a deep breath, leaning her side on the handrails of the stairs, her eyes lowered. "Maybe," Chaira talked back with a slight smile. Chaira mother, who turned her back from Chaira and was about to go down to entertain the 'guest'

William lowered me carefully onto one of the folding camp chairs by the unlit fire pit. The moment his hands left my thighs, a sudden, cold ache settled in their place. "I'm going to get some water and start the kettle," Mother said, hurrying over to the cooler, her energy seemingly boundless compared to my shattered state. "We all need something warm." I sat frozen, staring at my useless sneakers, my hands shivering in my hoodie pockets. William walked over to the truck bed, unstrapping the heavy cooler, his movements smooth and casual. Our eyes met and I quickly looked away. Seconds later he was in my space, crouching beside me.

Her thumb brushed my knuckles in a soothing motion. “You deserve happiness in this phase of your life. And so does the little one growing inside you.” She offered me a soft, hopeful smile, the kind only a mother could manage even in the face of her child’s pain. “Let yourself breathe again,” she added quietly. “Let yourself live.” “I know it won’t be easy to move on,” Mamma said softly, her eyes filled with hope, “but you have to try. For yourself.” Then, after a brief pause, she added, almost eagerly, “Now tell me where do you want to go?”

The woman's soft voice spoke through the barrier of the wooden door. My gaze still fixed outside the window, silence filled the room. I did not want to eat, I didn't have the appetite. I don't want to get up. I don't want to move at all. The woman sighed loudly and I heard her walk away, her steps fading. I pulled my legs closer to my chest, resting my head on my clamped legs, I closed my eyes and pictured my mother's warmth, keeping me safe from the world. ⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅

My mother's voice is barely a whisper, but instantly William is on his feet and beside her. "I'm here Carly. Elsie and Billy too. We're all here." My mum's eyes flicker over me and a warm smile fills her pale cheeks. My heart lifts with the hope that this is the beginning of a new chapter. She reaches out to me and I take her hand, squeezing it between mine.

I’d seen his anger, coldness, humor and seductive desire… but I’d never seen this type of warmth. It made me ache fiercely; to enjoy this sort of closeness with him, but also for the sort of mother-child connection I was witnessing. Now more than ever, I missed my mom all over again. “Well, are you done embarrassing me?” She chuckled “For now I suppose. I’ll let you know if anything else comes up.” She said wickedly and he let out a long suffering sigh. She sipped on her glass casually like it wasn’t blood she was drinking then winced and frowned into the cup.

I took a deep breath, adjusted the bouquet in my hand, and reached out to grasp the door handle. I slowly turned the handle and pushed the door open, revealing a warm and cosy room filled with the soft beeping of machines and the gentle glow of morning light. As I entered the room, my eyes immediately met my mother's, and her face lit up with a radiant smile. She looked a bit pale and weak, but her eyes sparkled with joy and love. I couldn't help but smile back, feeling a wave of happiness wash over me. "Aries, my dear!" she exclaimed, her voice weak but full of warmth. "Come here, sweetie!"
