As I’m running I feel a sharp, burning pain go through my side and as I fall to the ground I hear someone shout, “I hit one, she’s down” I can hear footsteps hurriedly making their way towards me, I crawl a ways ahead of me and find the edge of a cliff. It’s too dark, there’s no way to know how far down it goes. I decide to take my chances and drag myself over the edge. I fall down a ways and land on a ledge that gives way under my weight and I slide down the side of the mountain. ***

CHAPTER 47 POV: Mia The mountain was the first thing. She saw it through the plane window as they descended, massive and flat-topped and entirely itself, sitting above the city with the specific authority of something that had been there long before the city and would be there long after. She put her hand on his arm. He looked at the window. Then at her face. “There it is,” he said quietly. “It’s bigger than I imagined,” she said. “It always is,” he said. “Every time I come back.” He looked at the mountain. “You forget the scale of it between visits. Then you see it and you think right. That’s what I was trying to remember.”

"We can stop at the summit to grab some food. It's coming up on the right." Luke nodded. "Sounds good." We were passing through the Santa Cruz Mountains on our way to Dr. Frankler's place in San Jose. Calling them "mountains" was generous since the summit height was only about 1800 feet. But they did get snow every year, not that it ever stuck. There was a fruit stand at the point of the mountain that sold all kinds of snacks, drinks, and produce. Luke pulled in and parked right up next to the store. Everyone bailed from the Suburban.

He drew an upside-down 'V' to depict a mountain. "It's the tallest and the largest one in the pack. Not just this one, but of all the packs. Coincidentally, it lies in the centre of our supernatural island as well. Exactly in the centre, Avalyn." And then he traced a large circle with the mountain at its centre. "It's exactly equidistant from the north, south, east, and west. You don't understand the kind of advantage we will have if we set the entire pack on this mountain, Love." And then he made a smaller circle around the mountain. "This is the Montana Pack." And then he made another circle which touched the border of the Montana pack and the west coast. "And this is the Rogue pack."

Someone shouted so I was immediately separated by a hug. I think a man came in. The eyes are a bit narrow, black and long hair, sharp nose, and white. He brought a basket of fruit and laid it on a small table. Julie entered next. "Keegan, you are annoying!" she shouted and pulled the man's hair. I even saw the man's shouted in pain. "My youngest," Lucas whispered but I heard and Julie looked at him and hugged him. "I'm sorry, Lucas." The man with Julie approached me and introduced himself, "I'm Keegan Casper Montiero, the most beautiful cousin of Julie and Elise."

They immediately stopped what they were doing, stood up straight, and looked at me. “Asper,” Rajiv immediately went down the stairs and stood beside me. “Those two idiots are my friends.” He pointed at them. “The one on the left is Schail, while the one on the right is Karyu. They are also living here with me and Jyn.” I smiled at them and bowed my head. “Nice to meet you. I am Asper Reign.” “Asper Reign?” They frowned and looked at each other. My smile slowly faded away after seeing their reaction.

Andy noticed Adrian's unusual behavior and asked curiously, "Adrian, are you thinking of heading to that mountain? That peak is the tallest among the ten here and is likely not simple." Adrian looked around. From a distance, the area seemed filled with countless mountain ranges, but among them, ten stood out prominently. Each of these ten mountains had unique characteristics. Some were towering and imposing, while others were shorter but oddly shaped. One mountain appeared to be formed by two peaks merged into one, while another had a colossal ancient tree perched precariously at its summit, as if it had been struck by something heavy.

River winked at me. I chuckled before I took another sip of the sweet red wine. I sighed contently and settled my head against the side of his neck. The sun started to make its way behind the hills that surrounded the lake. “It's nice out here. We don't come here enough,” I said. “No, we don't,” River agreed. “You know, I got to be honest. I'm amazed anything about Montana amuses you after seeing Los Angeles. Don't get me wrong; I would never live there. I'm a country boy. I'll die before living in some crazy ass city, but realistically that place is beautiful. Even I can't deny that,” River said. Sadness filled his voice.

I don't like the silence that I used to love, not when it means she isn't talking. I watch her, as she takes in the landscape of the mountains I love. This time of the year, the mountain tops are still covered in snow from the winter, making them look like they glitter in the sun. Flowers are starting to bloom, and ssoon, there will be spring berries all over.

Elysia stood in front of the window and watched the setting sun. However, with the passage of time, the sky started to get dark and this darkness was making her scared. The clouds were surrounding it too and soon, the thunder caused her to take a step back. These thunderstorms have brought storms in her life and she cannot get rid of them. This time, the lightning lit up the dark sky with a loud roar and Elysia fell on the ground while she covered her ears with her hands to stop these voices from colliding with her senses.
