"Don't argue with her. You know how she gets." I did know. Sloane had been my best friend since seventh grade, when I'd shown up to middle school with secondhand shoes and a packed lunch that was just bread. She'd never made me feel bad about it. She'd just started bringing extra food, extra clothes, extra everything, like it was completely normal for the richest girl in school to share with the poorest. I hated it sometimes. The charity. Our conversation continued, filled with laughter, shared memories, and promises to catch up soon. If only he was privileged to meet with one of his parents too, but knowing it was a futile wish, he asked Anne about his parents. Author's POV "Can you tell me more about your friends?" Lucian asked Anne as he moved closer to her and took a seat beside her. Anne told Lucian how she met her friends starting with Kiama whom she met at high school then to Daisy and Gemma whom she befriended in college. She told him all they've been through as friends and how they've got her back. She told him of their professions and Anne noticed the change in Lucian's demeanor. "Don't be a scared; they only hit anyone who hurts me like my ex?" Anne said.

“Anne, have you read the news? I was right when I said that a woman like Jean could never settle down and that she was pretentious. It turns out that everything is true.” Tara Banks, Anne’s manager, came in with excitement. “Please don’t say that. Jean is my best friend. She might be frisky, but I don’t believe that she is that kind of person. She is a good woman.” Anne shook her head repeatedly, the gloom on her face disappearing. She had an innocent look on her face now.

Father said it was a gift but we all knew it was school's rule that she wouldn't be admitted without one. She went through the photo gallery. She saw her best friend Anne's photo during their admission the young innocent girl she really was. She recalled what happened to her when they reached their second year. Anne was invited by her friends for a birthday party. She shared rooms with Tina. That day, she told her about the party that was to happen later that evening. She asked Tina to go with her but she rejected claiming that she would be revising for her exams that would be in place in one week.

When they reached the kitchen, Lily finally let go of her hand and threw open the pantry door with dramatic flair. “Guess what I still keep stocked just for you?” she announced, her eyes sparkling. She pulled out a bright red bag of kettle-cooked salt and vinegar chips. Maya’s jaw dropped. Then she let out a shaky laugh that turned into a sound halfway between a giggle and a sob. Her hand flew up to her chest as she felt tears sting her eyes. “Lily… you didn’t have to…” she whispered, her voice trembling.
