I let out a frustrated breath, rubbing my hand over my face. I opened my mouth to call her name again.. BOOM. The ground shook. A loud blast ripped through the air. Fast. Violent. Too close. My ears rang. My heartbeat slammed into my chest. What was that?

I forced my eyes open and sat up in shock. My whole body was covered in sweat. My hands shivered. I touched my ears with my fingers. I brought my hands forward in front of my eyes. There was no blood! I sighed shakily in relief.
