The dank tunnel air took on a new quality—a hint of fragrant woodsmoke and the unmistakable musk of wolves. There was a narrow, long crack in the roof of the cavern, through which the light from the sky cascaded down onto the lake, rippling with the water and then reflecting off the crystals at the bottom.
