Chapter 97: The one I met at the Operation Garett’s Point Of View My mind would not take it initially. My grip on my gun tightened, and my eyes were on the man struggling with my men. He wore no mask, no disguise. Just him—Thorne. I felt as if the ground below me had disappeared. My whole body went rigid, my chest barely rising for air. I had a mask over myself, my identity hidden, but my hands shook. What the hell is he doing here?

I didn’t expect it to be this crowded. "One more thing." Alden reached into his jacket and produced a mask. Black, fine net. He held it out toward me. "It's a masked show. Nobody will know you are here." I took it from his hand and turned it over. “So tonight be whoever you want to be.” It sounded like the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. "Thank you." I said. He smiled slowly, his eyes darken as she leaned closer to my ear. "Don't thank me yet."

"Do you take this woman to be your wife, to stand by her through thick and thin?" "I do," the man said, his voice muffled by the mask. The guests whispered in awe. Howard Larson, the Larson family's big shot, was so in love with me that he would not let a bad cold stop our big day. He did not want to disappoint me. "Wait a second." The man's eyes darted around, and his forehead was dotted with sweat. I smiled and asked, "Howard, you're looking a bit pale. Too busy with the wedding to remember your medicine?"

She turned around quickly to see a tall guy who looked to be in his late twenties. He had dark brown hair, murky green eyes that moved around the store and his lean body was clothed in black attire. He was carrying a large brown box in his arms and moved in quiet, graceful strides. Melody noticed dark designs in the inner part of his forearm; a tattoo. His gaze quickly locked onto hers. The green hues morphed into a darker colour as stared her for a few seconds, his mouth slightly agape before his eyes dragged themselves over towards the hysterical man near her.

Rumi was already striking and Mas Guntur already knew when he was wearing make up, while me, Mas Guntur had not seen me wearing make up at all. I don't really need to come out of hiding later. I will wear a mask, but will not take it off. I took a deep breath, Mas Guntur definitely wouldn't recognize him. "Already here, ma'am." "Come on down." I looked at Rumi who looked doubtful. "What if you find out about it later? We haven't implemented all of our plans, instead we have big plans, Miss." "It's safe, Rum. We only need a few moments. Here's your mask, we'll go into the special room first, just don't show it if it's you."

He was the same man that appeared in Xunji's study. "Gui Mei pays his respect to the elders," he clasped his hand and turned in Xunji's direction. Behind him stood a dark-haired youth. He continued to stand there silently, only nodding at Ah Yin once. His figure wrapped in a set of devilish black robes with silver lining and his fists covered with Vajra Gauntlets. The top half of his face covered by a masquerade mask. Seeing him, the body of the masked youth standing behind the old man wearing dull yellow robes trembled. His reaction was intense and everyone could observe it. Those who knew this man's identity— the middle-aged man and Xunji, even knew the cause of such reaction.

The masked hero shook his head, “Go home and rest!” At that moment the masked man immediately left by flying. "Ah like when I was a kid," muttered Nicko who is now a superhero.

An elegant onyx-black mask, etched with faintly glowing wolf runes. My eyes narrowed. “The mask is designed to hide your aura,” He referred to Maverick. “It will help distort your voice, block scent tracking and also cloaks your magical signature and facial recognition” He said. I took the mask, staring and admiring it. A key for walking into human spaces without detection. “It’s bound to your energy,” Ardan said. “Only you can remove it. And if it breaks... we have problems.” I crossed my arms. “So you’re going to play Batman now?”

He smiles and replies, “Just call me Greg, and please do keep it a secret. ” He nods and says to him, “I understand, it seems you are a secret yourself. Why all the secrecy? You have not committed any crimes have you?” He doesn’t speak rather he nods and walks towards the room, this time, he doesn’t stop him. After the long sentences, he allows him to enter the room, he walks toward her slowly and he looks down at the sleeping beauty. He is about to remove his mask but he sees her stir in her sleep so he stops and walks closer to her. She opens her eyes and stares right at him, he looks down at her and says to her,

Riona flinched, moving her face away. "Who is that?" She asked, her voice hoarse from staying long without water. Her tense body relaxed in the slightest when her mask was left intact. The mask that had defined her whole life as the masked luna. It was no praise but a curse to hunt her ever since the accident when her dad died, she had been living with a scarred face that made people murmur and question her capability as a luna. She has had to wear the mask since the doctors said she would have to live with a ruined face but the wound healed within the month she got it leaving no trace of its existence. Who cares?
