Tancorix fumed, “Did the slightest challenge make them run away from their destiny? My people! Hah! The damned Romans are out there in our place.”
“Have a care.” Weaver shook her head, hand shielding her eyes from the moonlight, so full, perfect and fat above them. “No, the Romans are starting to bivouac there on the southern brink of the valley. But see, the confederation of Pictdom is beyond the edge of the dell to the north still, far beyond their reach. Their torches litter the night in the forest, can’t you see it?”
Tancorix strained her eyes to the north side of the valley and spotted a few fireflies in the night, something she wondered if the Romans could see as well.
