Above the cove. Darius was there. He’d reformed in the air. White wolf. Wings of light on his back. Not feathers. Blades. He was already moving, already going east, already leaving. Elias-and-Jace shouted. One word. One name. "TWIN FANG CATASTROPHE!" Their claws lit up. Not lightning. Something older. Blue-white turned black at the edges. They came together in front of them, claw to claw, and the space between them tore.

I didn't remember falling asleep. Only the moment I was pulled under. The sky above me split, smeared with fire and blood, and the wind was full of screams that did not sound human. Wings beat like war drums. Scales clashed like swords. Seraphine hovered at the eye of the storm, her voice rising in a call I could not understand, her eyes ablaze gold beneath a crown of horns. She was beautiful. Horrifying. Alone.

The moment I heard my wings ripping off my back, it triggered my heart into rage. As if after I heard a snap, my mind went blank, and all I could think of was to rip all the wings off the healers who ripped my wings off. "Bastards! I will kill you all!" I loudly declared. I could no longer feel my wings, but I remained in the air. I used the other healer's body so I could continuously ride on them while I split and slashed their necks.

Her skin was cold, and her breathing faint, but it was the darkness in her eyes that terrified him the most. For the first time, something within him stirred—a deep, primal instinct. He had never unleashed his wings before, not fully, but now they sprang from his back with a force that shocked even him. The black wings unfurled, stretching wide, their edges glowing faintly with an unearthly light. He had never flown properly before, had never trusted himself to soar, but there was no time for doubt.

“Foolish mortal.” He thrust her across the dais with inhuman strength; she tumbled into a river of flame, but did not burn. Her infernal ward flared in response, silver wings of flame unfurling from her back. Azrath’s eyes widened. “You… bear my mark.” She rose, iron will igniting beneath her flesh. “Because I embraced you... and yet I remain myself.” He roared, plowing through molten pillars. “Then prove it!” They met in the chamber’s heart, Azrath’s shadow-smoke wings vs. Nyra’s silver-flame wings; horns vs. circlet; brimstone blade vs. moonsteel sword. Each strike split the air in a symphony of war.

Spitfire had no idea what he was actually planning and it was better that way. "Auras don't weigh anything, you big idiot." Spitfire snarled through gritted teeth. The wings were starting to flicker. They were getting farther and farther from the bridge. "I can't let go of you to snatch any of these demons who are falling past us." Spitfire had pulled them out of the range of where the demons who were still tumbling off the bridge were falling. Not one of them had wings or any other power that Spitfire could steal to help them out of this predicament. The no-fur was sweating, straining to keep the wings whole and get them back to safety.

He could not help but wonder how easy it would have been had his wolf been not suppressed by the dark witch. Suddenly, from above, a swarm of Wraithwings descended, their ghostly forms merging into a tempest of shrieks that reverberated through the air like a banshee's wail. Flameheart pivoted, raising his blade to meet their assault, slicing through the air as they swooped down, their claws poised to tear him apart.

The person on the other side stated. I had to clear my throat before I could respond “Angels shouldn’t have clipped wings.” “I understand hold just a moment.” The man that had answered pressed a few buttons and before I knew it, I could hear June’s voice through the phone, “Are you safe?” June was straight to the point, but in her line of work I assume she had to be.
