I’m sure he’ll get over it by Halloween when we go trick-or-treating here and then in Bloodmoon. Even though I don’t believe it was more than a nightmare, I’ve kept my eyes and ears open. He leveled his weapon that looked like a small crossbow had successfully mated with a larger assault rifle. The man pulled the trigger once and another bolt flew into the back of the writhing werewolf. The werewolf screamed in agony and the girl actually cheered. "Yeah! Karma's a bitch, ain't it!" she yelled in elation, pumping a fist in the air at her savior.

“I’m not a coward who backs down from a challenge with excuses. Let’s finish this shit once and for all.” As soon as I said it, whispers spread all over the room. “Silence! Natalya, you don’t know what you’re asking for. You already look pathetic in your state.” Yeah... look who’s talking. Someone who almost fainted when I broke his arm. “That’s exactly why I’m curious. I want to know what Nightmare is made of,” I threw it as a challenge, though deep down I knew I was lying. I had already seen what he was.... dangerous, ruthless, and bloodthirsty like a vampire.

The familiar black-clad figure from earlier emerged, carrying… a giant sack of ornaments? “Seriously?” Sebastian groaned. “This is what they’re doing?” Noelle gasped. “That’s not just ornaments! That’s… evil glitter bomb potential!” Nyra rolled her eyes. “Your imagination is terrifying, kid. And yet… impressive.” Sebastian muttered, “We are doomed.” Noelle had other ideas. She sprinted ahead, sliding into the snow and tackling the intruder—accidentally, of course. The man yelped, tripping and dropping the bag, while Sebastian and Nyra charged.

Rendall asked and looked at my whole body trying to look for wounds or scratches, he sighed when he found nothing. “I am f-fine,” I replied. It’s like when I saw my mother lying on the ground, I cannot do anything aside. “A-are you not afraid of them?” I genuinely asked, we’re at the same age but he acts as he can kill a werewolf. “Why would I? I was trained to kill one.” He picked up the branches I dropped on the ground and motioned me to walk with him. On our way home we saw Finn and Polo at the porch, with tobacco on their mouths. When they saw us coming, they immediately threw the tobacco and used their hands as a fan to remove the smoke.

The next second, a white flash nuked my vision and forced my eyes shut. When I opened them again, my living room had straight-up rage quit and turned into a blood-red wasteland. "Okay, what the hell?" I squinted and spotted my six-foot-two husband, Adrian Chase, already doing the whole protective-dad thing with one arm around our son.

Brayan asks, his big round eyes widening as he pleads, and there’s no way I’m saying no to that. “Fine,” I tell him. This is the last of the Christmas decor anyway, so he can get to put it up. I hand him the flower, pick him up to give him some added height, and I direct him to hang the mistletoe over the door knocker. “WOW! It’s so nice and pretty. This is where kisses happen right?” Brayan asks innocently, and I nod. He turns to face me, malice glinting in his baby eyes, and already knowing that he’s about to ask when I’ll kiss a girl here, I attack him with a ton of kisses. Since he’s in my arms, there’s really nothing else for him to do other than twist in my grasp.

The Christmas lights twinkled through the frosted window of my apartment, casting a warm glow over the living room. I'd just finished wrapping presents for my family get-together tomorrow, but the chill in the air made me pull my robe tighter. A soft knock echoed from the door, unexpected this late. I glanced at the clock, midnight on Christmas Eve. Who the hell? "Who's there?" I called, my voice steady despite the flutter in my stomach. I'd felt watched lately, shadows lingering outside my window, notes slipped under my door. It thrilled me in a twisted way, especially since the fantasies that plagued my nights starred someone forbidden: my stepbrother, Alex.

Now, they had a good idea where the Vampire queen was hiding, but their best weapon was still on the fritz, and even though Heather McBride assured them that things were getting better, this was night twelve in a row where Cassidy woke all the Hunters with her screaming and sent all of the Guardians who weren’t related to h
