Trisha doubted that will happened but if it did, she was gone. The thoughts that it could be her last night if she closed her eyes for as much as a millisecond her discomfort. She sighed as the door to her dormitory opened, without doubt, she knew it was Nora. She wrapped her sweaty palm around her wand tighter which was tucked in her blanket. She had no plans on using it, but if Nora tried anything funny, she wasn't going to hesitate to blast her till her charred, lifeless body was flung the other side of the room like a piece of meat.

Now Noura is sixteen years old, and she is actively working on her strength to make her even stronger. She doesn't want to be belittled, and she wants to prove that women can be as strong as men. She didn't speak Greek like Lucia, but she knew the book's title. She was curious; maybe this book was Lucia's diary. Then she carefully lifted his arm, slid out from under it, and stood up. Damien made a sound. Low. Involuntary. His hand reached across the empty space she'd left without him waking, fingers closing around nothing, and something about that small unconscious searching made her chest do something she refused to name. She grabbed her bag and left before her face could betray her. Nina was already at the bookstore when Liora arrived for her afternoon shift, sitting cross-legged on the counter eating a granola bar and wearing the expression of a woman who had been waiting to have a conversation for approximately fourteen hours.

My voice cracked on the last statement. My mother spoke up before my father could. “No one is saying that. Just not with Alpha Orion. Do you know how powerful he is? He's the next big thing. Those silver eyes landed on me fully now, strangely beautiful and unsettling at the same time. “Do not thank me,” she said calmly. “I am not doing you a favor.” The softness in her appearance disappeared slightly then, and I was reminded very quickly that despite how gentle she looked, this girl was still powerful by human standards. I looked away awkwardly, my eyes drifting toward the books scattered across her bed before returning to her again. “Then why did you do it?” I asked quietly. Nira rose from the floor with the small plant in her hands and walked toward the patch of sunlight near the glass wall before placing it carefully there.

“Your power use it. The bond is our strength. Channel it, don’t let fear control you.” Elena closed her eyes, inhaling deeply, letting the memories, the flame inside her, the vessel she had been warned about, coalesce. Her hands began to glow, faint at first, then brighter, illuminating the attic in harsh, flickering light. The shadows hissed, recoiling from the energy, but one figure, taller than the rest, remained, eyes glowing amber, watching, calculating, waiting.

I asked her. Nina contemplated my question, then said, "Well, he isn't exactly by the book. I'm sure it was easy to get. You know, we could do a little recon and see what exactly you're getting yourself into by working with him." She wagged her eyebrows at me and flexed her fingers. Nina is a brilliant hacker, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued with her looking into Adrian before I jumped headfirst into the case. I thought about it for a beat, then told her, "Okay, but nothing illegal. Promise?"
