Noah looked him up and down once. "You're back." "Looks like it." The silence that settled between them wasn't exactly awkward, but it was heavy with the weight of two years of absolute nothing. Behind Kai, Kayla looked back and forth between the two of them, her eyebrows knitting together in total confusion. "Wait," she said, breaking the silence. Neither man looked at her right away, so she stepped into Kai's line of sight. "Nobody told me you had a brother." That actually got Noah’s attention. His eyes shifted down to her, a flicker of genuine surprise crossing his face.

Nolan said with a curt nod , just as he grabbed the door knob to leave he slowly turned to me. “I’ve retrieved her things, sent them to her and given her family a story,” he said, I nodded at him slowly. Just as he was stepping out, I heard him greet someone at the entrance. I glanced up to see my half-brother, Kael, walking in. Kael was a twin. His brother, Kian. All three of us shared the same mother but had different fathers. When my father met and mated my mother, she was already pregnant with the twins. He loved her regardless and took them in as his own. They’re both older than me by a year and eight months.

“Sometimes. We definitely had some close calls. But you shouldn’t worry too much about that. It’s just part of the job.” I nodded. “So, changing subjects, you’re an only child, right? No siblings?” “Nope, no siblings. You have two sisters, right?” “Yes, I have two much older sisters. One is thirty-six and the other is thirty-four. They’re both mated with pups. My oldest one, Peyton, actually just gave birth to a little baby boy a couple of days ago. And we just found out my other sister, Lauren, is having another baby. So I’m going to have six nieces and nephews all together soon! They’re a rowdy bunch! Especially my oldest nephew, Noah. He’s a riot.”

“I’m Noah.” I smiled. “Nice to meet you, Noah. I’m Kehlani.” His nose scrunched up as he repeated my name. “Kel-ha-nee?” I chuckled. “Close enough.” “Are you Alec’s friend?” The question caught me off guard. I hesitated for a second before answering, “Something like that.” Noah nodded, seemingly satisfied with my response. “He’s really cool,” he said, grinning now. “And super tall. Like a giant.”

Neria is also our sister! How dare you enjoy her presence and cooking alone?" Moments later came in, Noah's, Neria's twin brother, furious text. It even had several exclamation marks at the end, to simply show how dissatisfied he was with Kael and Nathan. " Besides, she is our only sister! We are supposed to treat her like a princess! How dare you allow her into the kitchen?" Before anyone could respond, another message came in from Noah, reeking of raw fury.

Genuine gratitude shone in her eyes. “So tell me, Jenny… what’s Noah’s real story?” “What do you mean?” “I know his parents and brother died in a car accident. That he has an uncle. That Marcela is his ‘cousin.’ But everything feels so… surface-level.” “Ju, that’s stuff he should tell you himself.” “I know. But we’re just starting out.
