Kael’s POV “You look terrible.” I didn’t look up from the screen. “Good morning to you too, Vance.” “It’s evening.” That made me glance toward the office windows automatically. Dark outside. Again. I leaned back slowly in the chair, neck tight from sitting too long in the same position. The office lights were off except for the desk lamp and the glow from three separate monitors throwing old Council records across the walls. Most of them were useless. Half-corrupted archives. Decommissioned infrastructure maps. Statute references scrubbed so heavily they looked more like threats than information.

Elder Summers looked into my eyes as I approached. "She's just like Samantha." I said quietly. "Yeah, where do you think Sam learned it from? Matilda loves that girl like her own child." Elder Summers nodded. "Goddess help you son, these Omegas are trouble." he added with a teasing glint. I nodded in agreement. "But they are more than worth it." I answered and he grinned.
