Walter nodded appreciatively. “So this world of yours works just like wolves hierarchy? A pack, an Alpha and... Do you have omegas?” Walter had no idea people like him existed in their own individual worlds, neither did he know anything about how things worked there. But he had a special liking to wolf animals and knew all about them. He was surprised to hear shifters followed the same pattern as the wolf animals. “There are omegas.” Olive walked back to sit beside Wayne. He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forehead.

The cool air hit my face. "This way" she nodded towards the large empty land just beside the training field. I kept my head down and we rushed past the training warriors until we were out of sight. At the other end, I could see tombstones. Will led me until I got to Sydney's tombstone. Her name was engraved deeply into the stone. "It's unusual for omegas to be buried like this" I nodded. The bodies of dead omegas were cremated. "They've given her soul a chance to reincarnate as a strong wolf this time" I chuckled.

It smelled like dirty bodies, cheap beer, sickness, and deep sadness. I walked into the camp, my heavy coat dragging in the snow. As I walked past the dark slave cabins, a small sound made me stop. I turned my head. Hiding behind a pile of frozen wood were three Omegas. They were outside in the deadly cold. They wore nothing but thin, torn shirts and dirty pants. They had no shoes, and their feet were purple from the ice. They were sitting on the ground, holding onto each other tightly just to stay warm. One of the Omegas looked up at me. His face was so skinny I could see his bones. His eyes were huge and filled with pure fear. I wondered the state of my mate.

The rest of us stood outside with our faces raised to the moon, praying for a successful initiation and the opportunity to partake in the next Feast of the Moon. “What noise?” Claudia asked, pausing her washing to listen. Omegas didn’t have as good senses as other wolves. We were the weak links in most packs, valued only for our empathy and service. Monica as a Beta could hear sounds hundreds of miles away but we the omegas could barely hear what went on a few feet away from us if we didn’t listen. “It sounds like a stampede.” Monica frowned. The other girls in the kitchen paused at that. It was still early evening so it couldn’t be the Alpha’s Call that caused the stampede.

However, the desperate cries of the young omegas spur us into action, propelling us forward into the room. Determined to provide comfort, we gingerly climb into their little nest, and to our astonishment, they transform into little wolves.

I made the mistake of allowing the Beta to see my cry early on in my captivity here, and he showed me what it meant to have something to cry about. For as much as I hated the Silver Springs Pack and Alpha Carlson, Alpha Sloan and Luna Wilma of whatever the hell the name of this pack was much, much worse.
