Of course, things never went to plan, and when Gera and then Julius had been born, they’d realized that having young babies across a hallway in another wing away from where they slept didn’t work either. It was a long way to walk in the middle of the night to see to a crying baby, and they hadn’t slept well with their young so far away. Gera had also stubbornly refused to sleep on her own and took great pleasure in moving from bed to bed, picking a daddy for the night. Julius’ cot made similar journeys between rooms.
Bed hopping was another family theme, as no one stayed i
