“Then that tramp will have the pleasure of explaining herself.” Nico leaned back in his chair, watching the fire in Nero’s gaze. The demon was back and out for blood. That same old ruthless certainty burned there. It was the look of a man who’d kill anyone or anything that tried to move his pieces off his gameboard. Nero’s gameboard. “Tonight, then,” Nico said finally. Nero nodded once. “Tonight.”

The grave hadn’t only held Reive under the ground but also diminished his magic powers and didn’t allow him to restore them. Still, the necromancer had tried. All these years. Every time he noticed some warm-blooded creature run across his field, he fell upon it through the ground with the ghostly cords of the Dark, sucking out its life and magic in their entirety. They were usually foxes, moles or hares. Sometimes, when a human being came into sight, the necromancer tried to kill him, too. But the last time this had happened was so long ago that Reive didn’t even remember whether he’d managed to do it. Mages usually resisted, and only complete non-mages were helpless against Reive.

Everything inside me goes cold all over again, the flicker of hope that had been there extinguished. I stare at him, dully, knowing it is not Lucas. But it is Lucas. Lucas’s memories, Lucas’s voice, his face, his hands. He begins to walk away from me, as if disgusted, and despite the shock to my system, my eyes catch some thing from the corner of them. The necromancer is standing on the balcony, holding a black spear which is both thick and heavy. His eyes are gleaming as he looks at Lucas’s back. And then he throws it with a speed that is terrifying.

My sword sliced through the air, deflecting the necromancer's dark power and sending it careening back towards its source. The necromancer let out a guttural roar, its crimson eyes narrowing with fury as it withstood the impact of its own attack. Elijah and Liam took advantage of the momentary distraction, their blades a blur as they launched a relentless assault. But the necromancer was no mere mortal. With a wave of its hand, it conjured a shield of dark energy, deflecting our strikes with ease. Its lips curled into a twisted smile as it watched us struggle against its formidable defenses.

Janus threw back his head with a jerk and then dropped it, facing the floor. Archer placed his wand on Janus’ head to stop the dead from completely possessing Janus’ body. We just needed their vision to see what happened in the room. The tip of his wand glowed against Janus’ head. Necromancy was the most dangerous form of dark magic because of the side-effects it brought on the necromancers.

This necromancer had black magic to bring back dead people, she was definitely going to kill me. I was in fact l was already a dead person. Dead man's blood was already coursing through my blood.

Necromancers were known for their paranoia and trapping of what little they valued. He now had time and space to secure the tome within his pack while he instructed the transfer of the found reagents to chests and other safe containers. No self-respecting mage left their reagents to the elements or time itself. This necromancer just didn’t have a care for anything or was not properly trained or both, Rolo didn’t know or care. This Hannibal could blow himself up for all he cared. Rolo’s concern was for those that Hannibal killed to get what he wanted and who he blew up with him when the time came.
