As my hands crumble together, I ask. Nobody is speaking up anymore. The air sinks into the silence until it becomes frightening. "Henry!" I whimpered. I gathered the white trash sack to my chest as the door came open. My muscles cramped, allowing blinking as the only movement I could muster. And blink I did, in utter confusion, as a man—not the woman I’d met earlier—slipped inside backward, peering out into the hallway as he came, as if he thought he was being followed and didn’t want to be caught.

I gripped the windowsill. The glow spread up my arms. And from the shadows near the fireplace, the air shifted. The hooded stranger stepped forward, his violet eyes on me.

ANA I was shaking and couldn't move, my body trembling in fear, so many thoughts went through my head as I hid in the closet. Who is that scary-looking man and why is he here? Could it be the truck driver who almost had his way with me? But the person outside looks nothing like the driver. I waited in silence and hoped he would just go away, then I heard a voice outside. "Okay sir, I'll come back tomorrow to check on her, I thought you were still here" he calmly said

he said, glancing down at me. I just stared at him, my body refusing to move. “You’re seriously going out there?” He shrugged. “Don’t really see another option.” Then he stepped off too — and just like that, he was gone, swallowed by the white haze outside. One by one, the others followed. The red-haired woman hesitated, whispered something under her breath, then disappeared as well. Soon, it was just me. Me and the open doorway. Cold air spilled inside, wrapping around me like icy fingers. I could hear faint noises outside — distant, distorted, like footsteps and whispers blending together.

Hall earlier that day, but when she opened her bag, she found a printed sheet inside that she hadn’t seen before. It wasn’t signed. It simply said: “You’re opening your eyes, Invisible Doctor. Be careful. Some things were never meant to be seen.”

We stood there for a moment, holding hands outside her dorm room door, preparing to face whatever supernatural bureaucracy awaited us inside. "Ready?" Ming asked. "Ready." She opened the door, and I got my first glimpse into the larger supernatural world that Ming belonged to. It was nothing like what I'd expected. And everything was about to change. [End of Chapter 12]
