Only I can unlock it." Kent pressed a hand over mine. "Trust me. This is good for you." A sharp pain suddenly tore through my left arm. Once. Twice. Three times. Hot and brutal, like countless burning needles stabbing into my skin and twisting. "Ah!" I cried out, doubling over. Kent caught me, frowning. "What's wrong?"

I muttered with a hardly discernible voice. "You don't have to apologise," she said softly as she sat down next to where I lay. "I know you're sad and heartbroken and all you want to do is cry and hope the pain will go away but my darling,we both know life doesn't work that way,crying won't help in healing this, it will only make your eyes hurt and give you a really bad headache”, Her hand found mine, her touch light but forceful.

Brain pinched his arm. “I never take sides. I just speak truth, Brian” Ralph removed his hand. “I am trying to control him. I can’t wait for a lost cause” Brain spoke and sat on his knees in front of Jeremy who began to howl by now. “It will hurt a little but you will be able to overcome it” Brain patted his shoulder before he let loose his aura. “Nooo!!! Emily! It hurtssss!!!” Jeremy began to scream in pain and calling his sister’s name for help.

I stood outside the door for two hours. Blisters burst and formed on my body continuously until they stuck to my clothes. Every breath I took hurt. My parents finally came back. My older brother, Dylan Jeater, was bandaged tightly. My father, Robert Jeater, carefully carried him to bed. My mother, May Jeater, walked straight up to me and slapped me hard across the face. It stung. “Are you happy now?! “The doctor said Dylan’s condition just took a turn for the worse. He might not even make it to sixteen now!”

The stinging in his ribcage on the left increased as Paul fought his way back to consciousness. His mind pleaded with him to just fade away, back to oblivion, back to where the pain was just a distant annoyance, like the itch of a mosquito bite, but determination to look his assailants in the eyes was winning out, and the closer he came to the shores of awareness, the more the pain intensified. Even though he had some powers as a Healer, nothing he was capable of could fix this.

Rylan’s POV I think I am strong enough to withstand pain. I think I have known pains all my life. I think pain is when my mother didn’t breastfeed me nor see me for four years. I think pain is when I didn’t have any one by my side. I think pain is when my brother burned my face because his crush said I am more handsome than him. I think pain is when he wasn’t punished, yet I’m blamed for staying too close to the candle instead. I think pain is when I am exiled for a crime i didn’t commit. I think pain is when Lee flog me with a whip and burn me with candles everyday for five years. I think pain is when I realized that father knows everything but he didn’t say a word.

Breaking every cycle. But the pain… the pain will take longer to fade.

Meph would believe the storm that almost took down the door was all but a dream, if it wasn’t for the very real pain that’s still burning his wrist. Never has he been so grateful for having alexithymia, if he could feel what grateful is— Sudden pain. That’s the real test. Not the question.
