Balloons and confetti of all colors were released from the net above the VIP section. I noticed that everyone around me kissed their respective partners. And before I could talk myself out of it, I turned to Gray, grabbed her face with both of my hands and kissed her on the lips. I figured a New Year's kiss was the least I could give her since she'd brought me along as her plus-one and I was having a great time.

I muttered immediately, refusing to meet his eyes, but he came closer again. "We're the last to present, everyone is watching with mouths open. It's almost new year, I start to count down and then immediately the screams ring out and the fireworks blast into the sky, everyone screams; Happy new year, and we kiss. It's going to be beautiful." He ssid, and continued to talk about it like he really wanted it to happen. "No way."

"To us, and to the beginning of the best years of our lives." "To us." She cheered, and they let the cool, sparkly, bubbly drink slide down their throats. "Now give me your sweetest kiss."

She asked why I hadn't gotten home yet. I typed and deleted the message again and again for a long time before finally replying: [Something came up. I'll go back after New Year's Day. Don't wait for me.] The next second, she replied. [No rush. We'll celebrate New Year's Day together when you come back this time.] My eyes reddened. So this was how wonderful it felt to have someone waiting to celebrate a holiday with you. [Sure.] I turned and booked the earliest flight available. Although it was clear that I couldn't make it in time for the New Year's holidays, at least I could still go back and see her.

He took up a glass of wine from the waiter, as did I as it was time to say the final speech and then cheers to the new year. “Well then now, let's all cheers,” he paused with a smile as we all raised our glass up towards him,“ to the new year, a new beginning, also new endings,” his eyes staring right at the statue with a smirk, “And also to the new friendships we would find.” “I do hope we all get along this new year to avoid any more unprecedented accidents you see,” his tone sharp, more blunt, cold and threatening this time as his smile faded off,“ So yeah to the new year and many more to come.”
