I assure him, my heart light and free when I realize it’s true. “Here.” The bear hands me a bottle of water. “You need to drink something.” I recognize the bottle as one of Santiago’s fancy imported waters. My vampire master wouldn’t waste something so fancy on me. I don’t know if I can tell the bear that. With a grunt, the bear pushes the water on me, and I don’t protest. I’m parched. The water is cool, almost sweet, and I drain the whole bottle.

Selwyn’s POV I was standing just outside the mansion as a large purple suv came sliding sideways to a stop. I jerked the door open and lifted out the love of my life. I knew from the mindlinks of Rod and Nevel that something was wrong with my Rain. They all thought it was the dark evil blood magic. Now that she was in my arms I knew that it wasn’t the case. I looked into her eyes as she fought to stay awake for me. A single tear slipped out of the corner of my eye as I watched with helplessness as Rain succumbed to a deep sleep.

From inside their home, one could hear the calming and melancholic sound of raindrops. In the past, rain used to evoke fear in Keisha. But with Colten's help and love, the fear was slowly replaced with joyful memories amidst the rain. She had many bad experiences with the rain, moments that caused her intense fear, especially when she miscarried while it was raining. All around them the rain had begun to fall, the places the rain hit burst into small flames before sizzling out. Up ahead Elaina could just barely make out a cave. The troops who were hit by the black raindrops immediately lay dead. The black raindrops instantly pierced and melted the flesh and bones of living beings when they came into direct contact with them alive.
