When dawn shone through the door of the Fogou, August snapped awake, stunned that he’d slept much at all. He gazed about the inner chambers of the Fogou and noted that all who’d survived the night, slept. Most snored. True, their fear had been high upon entering the underground chamber, but their bodies—so exhausted from battle and the struggles of the mind to cope with it all—had given out.
“Are they gone?” Malitus voice called out, sober and soft in manner August hadn’t heard before then. He did have a tinge of the brew Porcius had found on him, though. Desperate times call for desperate measures, he supposed.
