Just for good measure, we made a pinky promise and everyone knew you couldn’t break those. We made it into the the twins square and the England air had chilled a little but it wasn’t too bad. We had walked into about a dozen art stores and we had accumulated one plastic bag with one item. I swear, Damien was picker than the average female. But then again, most artists were perfectionists when it came to their work. I was guilty of it too. Then again, at some point, I realised that there was no point in trying to chase perfection because it was merely a construct. Perfection was unattainable and could not be reached—ever. And that was okay.

“You wish to use the Chaos here to grow” “You wish to consume Chaos to reach heights you cannot normally reach in the realm outside” “Smart boy” “Greedy boy” “Seeker of perfection” “You want to be the epitome of perfection” “To gain a perfect foundation” “To make no mistakes” “What a keen mind” “Yet a foolish thought”

Right now, perfection was the only option. And that was exactly what I intended to deliver.

So for him, his entire life he has tried to work up to this level of perfection, since everyone around him wanted him to be that way. “I mean, I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t think you have to be perfect. Because what even is perfect? Your definition of it may not be the same with mine, or the rest of the people in this world. So, why try so hard to be a person that doesn’t even exist?”

He'd stopped mentioning it. Some things were allowed to be imperfect. Some things were allowed to be his. This was a lesson that had taken him longer than he wanted to admit. He was a perfectionist—not in the casual way that people used the word, but in the actual way, the way that meant the gap between what he could imagine and what he could execute was a source of constant low-grade frustration. He had spent years trying to close that gap, trying to make the thing he made match the thing he imagined, trying to eliminate the distance between vision and reality.

“Speak plainly.” The hunter turned its silver gaze toward him. “Reality believes balance has stabilized permanently.” “That sounds like a good thing,” Killian said. “It is not,” the hunter replied. All attention shifted back to it. “When balance becomes absolute, evolution stops. Growth ends. The system resets creation to begin again.” Cold understanding spread through me. “The universe thinks perfection has been reached,” I whispered. The hunter nodded. “And perfection triggers termination.” The irony hit hard. I had finally achieved balance… and now existence planned to erase everything because of it.

He began to speak again, his voice quieter now but still clear enough for everyone to hear. “I called this piece Perfection,” he said. “Not because the woman in it is flawless, but because she represents something perfect to me. Something rare. She’s strong, but gentle. She’s been through things, yet she still carries light. To me, she is perfection — not in the way the world defines it, but in the way she exists. She doesn’t have to try. She simply is.” I felt my eyes start to sting.

She is the missing piece that completes the puzzle of my heart, and I am forever grateful to have found her. Our journey was long and tough, filled with countless challenges and obstacles. Yet through it all, the one constant was the unrelenting craving for pleasure. It drove us forward, pushing us to overcome every hurdle in our path. And now, as we reach the end of this journey, we can look back with pride and satisfaction, knowing that we never gave up on our pursuit of pleasure. For it was this craving that led us to the greatest experiences of our lives, and we will carry it with us always.
