I laughed, breathless.
“Get some sleep, author,” I said. “You’ve earned it.”
She sighed, eyes drifting closed again, hand tightening once around my arm before slackening.
I lay awake a little longer.
Listening to the night.
To the soft squeaks and sighs from the bassinet. To Lilah’s breathing. To the distant, contented murmur of a pack at rest.
