My world is a mapped out labyrinth. A seemingly impossible quest to find anything in the latter. Something so simple for others, but to me an unobtainable thing. Serenity, the one thing I yearn for since I can remember. Right in the centre of all the chaos and destruction, I dare to say, was brought upon me by my beloved ones. In a world as dark and cunning as mine one would think to take the first opportunity and get away from it all. All the anger and desires burning one from the inside and starting anew.

Ruby swooped to the right, pulling Nya out of the way of that arrow and then followed Gavin’s dragon up into the air for a returning pass. It was then that Nya saw Slate. He was in his human form, on top of the castle on one of the turrets, fighting against a mob of Beelzanborg soldiers. His brother was by his side, and the two of them were making short work of the group as it was. But since Ruby was nearing their position, she lowered her head and sent a burst of fire at the Beelzanborg troops, hitting several of them, knocking many of them to the ground, many of them on fire.

Sighing, I resign myself for the eight hour drive ahead of me. Checking the time before looking at the dark road ahead of me as I exit lit up town I realise it’s only Quarter past Six. Slowing to a stop at the lights, I’m greeted by the curious stares of some of the towns folk but I ignore them all and continue along my way. Maneuvering my way along the desolate country road and then uphill before I finally came to a stop outside the large iron gates halfway up the hill.

The bag my mother had packed was getting heavier and heavier with each step. The talking was helping keep my fear of the forest at bay, but now, in the silence, the hooting and howling were getting to me. I rushed up to join Kent. I mean if I was stuck in the Unclaimed Forest with anyone, I would pick the most powerful Alpha. As I ran up to him, I must have stepped into some slippery mud because instead of landing next to him, I slammed into his back. In order to make sure he didn’t fall, he twisted to face me, caught me by my waist and kept me from eating mud. His touch was again warm.

16 Years Later -ZOYA- Blood drips from the side of my knuckles, sending a tingling sensation up my arm. I straighten up but immediately wish I hadn't. My vision blurs and I stumble back. "47… 48, 49…" Scarface counts. I have less than 20 seconds left on the clock. Today's challenge was surviving. And so far, I was killing it. I twist to the side, sending a kick flying in the air. My muscles strain with the effort, but I grit my teeth, watching with little relief as my opponent lands on the floor with a dull thud.

The first day of a new week started on a low note with Dev being late and missing his usual train to work. He’d reached his rented place quite late the previous evening, and after attending to a couple of chores and dinner, it was way beyond his normal schedule. This morning, he felt zapped out. He was groggy and yawned every now and then. How he wished he could have slept some more! The meeting with the Saxenas was a pleasant one, especially seeing Ruhi after so long. She had transformed from a cheesy, irritating girl to a gorgeous, smart, intelligent and decent, independent woman. With all her class and elegance, she kind of made him nervous.

the other answered. "All we have are off his back so far," someone said and the next moment, his phone begun ringing. He glanced at the photos coming in till he saw a partial photo of Jason. "Looks like a new player," someone commented as he took out his ringing phone and placed it to his ear. "Rudder," he answered. "You have been asked to withdraw," the man on the phone said. "Withdraw? We have activity to day. Images of some new player. How could we be called back now?" Agent Rudder asked.

The city outside had gone quiet, its hum softened by the winter night. Then, suddenly, her secure line pinged—a sharp sound that broke the silence like glass shattering. She reached for the screen. The message was brief, stripped of all ornament. Meet me. Midnight. Old market courtyard. Alone. No name. No number she recognized. Evelyn stared at the words, her heartbeat loud in her ears. The room seemed to grow colder, shadows lengthening against the walls. She closed the message slowly, her hand tightening into a fist. And in that moment, she knew with absolute certainty: the game was not over. It had only shifted to a darker field.

The drive over to the apartment was filled with an uncomfortable silence. Unasked questions hung in the air like a thick fog. Beads of sweat prickled on the back of the drivers neck as he too was smothered by the tension in the car. The seconds felt like minutes as the road seemed to stretch longer and longer before her eyes. Letting her eyes close, Thea suppressed a sigh as she leant her head against the window, she ignored the drumming of her head against the window as they drove over the bumpy terrain. Bellamy’s words playing on repeat in her head, ‘like our souls recognise each other’.
