It's not because we're attracted to each other, but because we can communicate without words. We've done in in college before, we've done it at parties before – mostly when someone would say something stupid or something that we thought was so unfunny it was funny. But it was never for any other reason than satirical amusement. Neither of us have mentioned it – we don't have to. As the night wore on and the wine continued to flow, our conversation meandered from topic to topic. We discussed love and destiny, our hopes and fears, punctuating serious moments with fits of giggles as the alcohol loosened our inhibitions. "You know what I think?" I can't believe there are some animals that is not being considerate and have less conscience and even devilish in nature who would think of spamming me with messages when I find sleep interesting, I thought rolling on the seat as well as sending them curse words trying to sleep again without the thought of picking up the phone on my mind at all. And the worst part about this weird thought that just popped up in my head is that I can’t even clear the stupid thought from my mind because I know it is what Jimmy is capable of doing when the spirit of stupidity enters into me. But God help him if he actually decides to be stupid and think from his ass rather than from the brain he was blessed with because he will not live to witness the end of my rage and this is not even a joke. I would be absolutely pissed with him for more than a month if he decides to embarrass me like that.

She revealed, keeping her gaze on her hands which were splayed on her lap, “It's okay, you can laugh.” “Why would I laugh?” I asked, genuinely confused. “I don't know,” Violet sniffled, tears welling up in her eyes, “I just thought you would make fun of me. But now that I say it aloud, I realized how stupid I was fo think like that because you're not that kind of a person. I've just been having these crazy thoughts.” Gripping her shoulders, I said, “Look at me, Violet. I will never do something as silly as that to you, okay? I'm sorry you're going through this. Let me know if there's a way I can help, okay?”

Lia didn’t want to but we kept pushing, wanting to make sure she filled her belly with something other than us. I snickered at my joke, earning a look from Matt. “Why are you staring at me like that?” “You just laughed randomly.” “Well, I thought something funny.” Matt rolled his eyes. “I’ll be the judge of that. Tell me what you thought was so funny.” So I repeated what I thought to myself, causing Rain to burst out laughing. “Colby, my dude, that was hilarious.” Jesse blinked slowly. “That is one of the least clever things you have ever said, Colby.”

“Or… Catfish.” A laugh slipped from me—real, unsteady, broken at the edges. “Yeah, that’s right. If you don’t wake up soon, I’ll start naming our baby after random animals. Catfish. Platypus. Hedgehog.” I laughed again, the sound bubbling up unexpectedly, sharp and almost hysterical in the sterile quiet. My chest shook with it, but then it broke off suddenly, and the silence that followed hit harder than before. My throat closed. My laughter died.
