Her slippers lay beside the desk. “Serra!” he called out but only silence answered. Her scent lingered, faint and far away. His eyes darkened to black. ***************** “Ahhh! Where am I?” Serra screamed, falling through the void—then bam!

“He knew about the chains. Maybe he knew what breaking them would do.” Myrra extended a hand, but the moment her fingers brushed the air around the book, an unseen force repelled her. She stumbled back, eyes wide. “It’s warded.” Rael glanced at the sword still in his grip. If the blade had broken the previous seal, maybe… He stepped forward and placed the flat of the sword against the barrier. The reaction was immediate. The air rippled outward like a stone cast into water. The glow dimmed, and the resistance vanished. He reached out and lifted the book.

Razor smiled broadly as he shook off Dark Fear. His eyes flashed coldly as he crushed the hand in his grasp, causing Dark Shadow to scream in pain. She was panicked now, for the dagger that should have pierced through Razor’s chest had not been able to break his skin. In fact, it had shattered upon impact! It was then that she noticed that this was not her dagger. This was an ordinary weapon, one that would never breach the skin of a beastman!

Razor was full on agitated and his mind was filled with all sorts of twisted fantasies about killing scared girl. “No one has ever hidden from me for this long,” he growled in a mixture of anger and excitement. “I am going to enjoy killing her.” His murderous intent was at its highest and I salivated at the thought of feasting on his energy when the time came. It looked different from the many tomes and manuscripts filling the shelves of the library. The book was leather bound, and instead of facing me with its spine, it was placed on the shelf with its front cover facing me. It was dark—beautiful and deep obsidian. The edges were threaded and swollen because what I guessed had to be antlers were sewn into the edges. In the middle laid a blood-red jewel that seemed to shine in my face with its own light. The book was pumping with energy. I swear, it sounded like it was whispering to me, calling to me.

A light electric shock struck her hand and a warning appeared on the page, “This book is meant for the eyes of the Holy Clan. None but those whom are members of the clan may read this book. Great protections shroud this book and anyone defying this requirement will find themselves turned to stone.” “ interesting,” Raven thought. “ I suppose it’s time to find out if I really am a part of this clan.” She dared to turn the page.
