But she wasn’t alone. In the corner, half-hidden by shadows, stood another figure. A woman. I squinted through the smoke ,and felt my stomach drop. Rebecca. The lawyer. The one who had been helping Maya. She was holding a gun. It hit me all at once. The messages. The warnings. The mysterious “Friend.” It had been Rebecca all along. But why? What could she gain from all this? I crept closer, careful not to make a sound. Rebecca took a slow step forward, raising the gun. Maya turned, startled.

Besides, she was almost done with the atonement child when I walked in earlier. Her current book was titled, a vessel of honor. Written by a renowned christian writer, Rebecca Brown. A devoted christian who was willing to go through hell for the kingdom's sake. Her story had never ceased to amaze me, as not everyone who calls himself a christian is willing to go through that much for the kingdom. Most prefer pleasure to actually doing the things of the kingdom and it's really saddening.

I showed the photograph to Liam. "She is brave," he said. "She is stubborn." "Same thing." I put the photograph on the mantel. Rebecca called every week. The bookstore in Montpelier was almost ready. She was painting the walls purple. "Tom says it is too much," she said. "Tom is wrong." "Thank you. I needed to hear that." "You are welcome." She sighed. "I miss you." "I miss you too." "Summer is almost here." "Summer is when we gather."

he said in her defense. "A misunderstanding? A coincidence?" Daniel sneered. "Do you know what else is a coincidence? I was one of the judges last year. Do you have any idea who you are defending, Mr. Wade? Do you?" Aaron froze. He turned to Rebecca in disbelief. "What's going on, Becky?" She looked horrified. She shook her head. "No, I can explain." "Shall we ask Rebecca why she recognized some of these pieces? Because she snuck into my dorm last month and photographed every page of that art book."

“Yeah. Reagan’s was easier because I had help, but I talked to Maeve today about the books that Asy got me and while we were on the phone, I went through what I had done to make sure yours had the right amount of intention specified.” I put the necklace over my head. “What do you think?” I ask Reagan. She frowns, looking at me. “It’s surprisingly sexy,” she says. I guess I won’t be taking this off any time soon. “What did Maeve say about the books?” I ask as we walk toward the back of the packhouse.

Others fidgeted, glancing up at their elders for reassurance. But in all, they would be marked tonight. Tonight, their paths would be chosen. Rebecca, on the other hand, stood at the edge of the gathering, just beyond the main circle of firelight. She wrapped her cloak tighter around herself, even though the night was not cold. Her body may have healed enough to move freely, but her instincts remained restless as she felt her skin prickling with unease she couldn’t explain or push away. Something feels wrong and she can't rule that fact out. This made her scanned the crowd slowly but there were too many smiles, too much noise and too much distraction.

I smile, trying to be humorous. Rebecca did not relax, however. - Are you sure you don't want to come with me? She insists. - No, I prefer not. I decide by diving back into my notebook. - Good. She whispers before getting back into the shower. Rebecca is a girl with a café-au-lait complexion and is the only girl I talk to. Although for a pastor's daughter, she dresses in an almost Gothic way. She remains decent in general terms and lives with one foot in the church and the other sometimes oscillating towards the secular world....

Rebecca had woken up early and snuck out of the bedroom. She went to the kitchen and stayed at the door. Zita was present as well as another maid. She had caught a glimpse of the Duchess when she turned her head round. "Good morning, Your grace!" Her salutation alerted the other who was with her. "Good morning, Your grace!" The latter said and curtsied. "Good morning." Rebecca answered cheerily with a smile. She walked towards the island. She leant against it. Zita observed that she was happy-extremely happy-and was curious to know why.
