His gaze went past me and up toward the horizon and his grin shifted into an all out smile. I turned my head from him to see a golden ball of fire rising up over the dark blue water. The sky was awash in blues, pinks, golds, and oranges that stole my breath away. It was possibly the most stunning sunrise I had ever seen. I glanced over at him again. The sunlight was bathing him in total glory, accenting the strength of his cheekbones and the golds in his hair. His shoulders were relaxed as he soaked in the morning light, absorbing it's radiance. His smile was almost brighter than the sun and just as beautiful. When he smiled, it was better than the sun coming up. It made my heart beat faster

“Well, sweetheart, I think the Bakers always have a few surprises up their sleeves. It’s Christmas Day, after all, and you are their favorite.” Reese grinned, suddenly looking alert. “Yay!” she cheered. Elijah, adjusting his shirt collar with a thoughtful look, added, “Heather seemed really nice last night. I’m glad she makes Daniel happy.” I nodded, smiling as I poured us all some orange juice. “Me too. It’s great to see Daniel so content. I’m glad Heather makes her happy.” Reese, already dressed in her festive outfit, let out a dramatic yawn and stretched her arms as wide as she could. “I’m so tired, Mommy, but I can’t wait to see what’s next!”

“You made it. 3 weeks. Reese was wrong.” “Reese is always wrong,” I said. Wiping Isla’s face. Missed a spot. Isla giggled. “What’s the plan?” “Plan,” Susan said. Smirked. “I’m coming over. 1 PM. With wine. And by wine, I mean juice boxes. For the kids. And wine. For us. Because it’s Day 21. And we survived 3 weeks. Again.” _Silence._ “Again,” Adrian said. Walking in. Isla launched herself at him. Blue hands. White shirt. He didn’t care. “Chapter 50 was 3 weeks. Chapter 60 is 3 weeks. See the pattern?”

Hazel POV. The club was different in the sunlight, it's nothing like the one I saw last night, or the one I usually see when I come in the in between shifts. In the morning, sunlight streams through the windows, the music is different, it's not dark, strong or loud, it's just a background, you could have a chat here without having troubles listening to what the others are saying. I didn't know my brother catered to people in the morning as well as at night, there were tones of murmurs, clinking glasses. People laughed lightly, their designer sunglasses reflecting the gleam of gold watches and the occasional polished shoe.

I called again, moving toward the door but I got no answer. This guy is not only a nerd, he is also weird and somehow crazy. I wonder how I was going to cope with him when I joined his book club. I grabbed my phone off the table and unlocked it. As the screen popped on, messages flooded in. Group chats messages , especially the ones I've muted for a while now. ‘Arian Smith, Orleans College Book Club President, Accused of Misusing Club Funds.’ I blinked, trying to wake myself from the dream. I scrolled down, read it again and it was still the same.

Out of sight, out of mind. My phone buzzes against the table. I barely glance at it at first. Unknown number. “Spam,” I mutter, unlocking it. The message loads. " It’s okay to reject me.You don’t have to go through this at all. " I freeze. “Kane,” I say under my breath. A whole month of nothing and this is what he sends? Just— Permission. My grip tightens around the phone. “It’s okay to reject me.” I let out a short, sharp laugh.

I’m not a gloomy person by any means, but when everyone thinks of you as this ray of sunshine, some high expectations come along with that, and I don’t like to disappoint people. Why do I have to be a ray of sunshine for everyone? CHAPTER NINETEEN — OPEN HEARTS The second day of their getaway dawned with golden sunlight spilling over the ocean. Yara awoke to the sound of gentle waves and the faint scent of coffee drifting from the porch. Jamal was already up, sitting with two mugs of steaming tea. He looked up as she emerged from the cabin, smiling softly. “Morning,” he said, handing her a mug. “Morning,” she replied, taking it and letting the warmth seep into her hands.

Chelsey POV We arrive at the Sunshine Pack with Rex and Sunshine. "Do you know this pack and your name rhymes?" I ask Sunshine soon after the pilot announced that we are set to land. Sunshine widens his eyes in surprise as if this is where we took his name from. "Really?" He exclaims. "Yes darling, this is the Sunshine Pack and this is its Alpha." "I can't believe this, I think here is much more beautiful than the other pack?" "You're only seeing the night view and you say that, what if you see it in the day?"

“Art’s only good if it makes someone feel something. Yours belongs on this tree.” Reese stepped next to me, her coffee in one hand, monitor still tucked under her arm, and her hair half-up, soft curls spilling around her shoulders. She kissed my cheek and then stepped in to help Hikari pry Ryū away from the ornament he was determined to eat. I looked around at everything, the chaos, the noise, the laughter, and saw her smiling like this was how it should be. And I couldn’t help it. I fell in love with her all over again.
