The pain shoots through my ribs, making me wince, but I ignore it.
Rook catches it, though, his expression hardening. “You need more painkillers?”
I shake my head. “Nah. I’m fine.”
“Bullshit,” he mutters under his breath, but he doesn’t push it. Instead, he shifts, pressing a hand against my thigh, grounding me.
Rook keeps his eyes on me, his fingers pressing against my thigh like he’s trying to anchor me in place. His jaw tightens, and I already know what’s coming before he even opens his mouth.
