When the elevator doors finally opened, they walked down the quiet hallway until they reached Room 1208. The door clicked open. The room was spacious, elegant, and warm. A king-sized bed occupied the center of the room. A large sofa rested near the window overlooking the city's glowing skyline. Beside the television sat a polished wooden cabinet with a small minibar and a compact refrigerator tucked beneath it. Mathew set his suitcase down. "The meeting is tomorrow." His voice was calm and professional. "So you can rest tonight." Silius simply nodded. There wasn't much else to say.

The reviews began arriving on Thursday. Patricia Osei had told me to read them but not to organize my understanding of the book around them because the book had been written for the women in the long middle and the women in the long middle were not the reviewers. Her gaze was focused on the beautiful extraordinary flower which sparked her interest the more she stared at it.

Then, with alacrity, Astrid returned the oil lamps to their respective places. There was wind pouring in from the hole in the wall. Apparently, this room was made so that air could still enter and leave the room. Thus, the oxygen in the room would not run out. The room was bright enough for Astrid now. She could clearly see that the secret room was a small library with ancient bookshelves. Astrid poked one of the bookshelves to check the thickness of the dust with her finger. The dust on the bookshelf was not too thick, signifying that someone was caring for and cleaning the room regularly, though not every day.

The night, I couldn’t sleep because same coldness wrapped me. Next Day... “Dr. Miller, good morning, I hope you rested well yesterday. The room isn’t the best of all the rooms at top floor and it was locked for years. I wondered if you could sleep.” Amelia, who was slicing her bread elegantly, commented while I was trying my best to focus on my first meal. Dominic sat on his chair busy typing away on his phone. He paused on her comment and I felt his gaze on me. “Amy, the room is cleaned every week and its spacious. In fact, the biggest room on top floor. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have allocated it to Dr. Miller.” He spoke.

A smug smirk played on his lips as he scrolled through his phone, completely unbothered by my presence. The infuriating bastard was doing it deliberately. The following morning, I woke up expecting a moment of peace. Instead, I was greeted by absolute chaos. Half the room had been completely commandeered by Raihan. Designer outfits were draped carelessly over chairs, luxury watches littered the desk, and an assortment of expensive footwear was scattered across the floor as though the room were his personal dressing suite. I stood there in stunned disbelief, my irritation mounting with every passing second. The arrogant jerk hadn't merely moved in—he had laid claim to the room.

Bathroom. I paused at a small reading room, with wall to wall bookcases. The books were well-read, well-cared for, and the room was small and cozy, with two comfortable-looking tall-back chairs set facing a fireplace. At once, I wanted to spend more time here, curling up with a good book. For now, I closed the door and backed out of the room At the end of the hallway was a stairwell down. As I started to descend, I heard Prime Beta’s voice.

The room behind it was small. Not a cell. I registered that immediately, the way I had registered the difference between Northesk's guest room and a cell on my first morning awake there. A cell had a particular quality to its emptiness. This room had a chair, a narrow bed against one wall, a window too high to see through, a small table with a few books on it. The books were old. The waiter disappeared momentarily to check on the room availability, leaving me in the cozy booth with my thoughts. The crackling fire and the soothing jazz music created a lullaby-like ambiance, coaxing my eyelids to grow heavy.
