I gritted out. "Alpha, I really need you to calm down," Lira finally said as she handed me two different tablets and a glass of water. "You will need to take both of these for the next two weeks. It will help with the internal healing as well as the external pain." "Calm down? You want me to freakin' calm down after finding out some bastard wants to kill my children?" I shouted at her and I was about to hit the poor woman when I felt Jayson's hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him, seeing him shaking his head as his way of telling me that I needed to calm down.

I turned off my phone and cried all the way home. I went straight to the refrigerator to grab my wine. I needed to calm my nerves. I pulled out my phone, turned it on, and called Kita. "Hey , girl what's up? I'm kind of in the middle of some." She answered the phone out of breath. "Nothing, just call me back when you get time."

Sif did a double take but did not check her Hyperion Root as she retorted, "This is a Hyperion Root—there's no faking it. The roots are intertwined, a crystalline yellow and carries a fresh scent. How could it not be a hundred years old?" "That's not quite right." Frank shook his head and smiled. "Ms. Lionheart, the Hyperion Root grows one tertiary root every ten years, so why don't you start counting if it's the right number?" Frank's words finally built doubt in Sif at that—if memory serves, it should be ten. "One, two, three…" She started counting, her face soon falling once she stopped at nine. She counted again and again, but the Hyperion Root only had ni

“Yeah, it is a part of the mix we're using to stabilize the Alpha's wolf energy.” I frowned a bit. “That root… pretty rare, from what I read, you're not supposed to use it for long; especially not with moonleaf.” His jaw tightened. “We know what we're doing, Lady Lila. This shouldn't be something to bother you with.” Adrian's eyes flicked back and forth between us. “Let her speak.” I stepped closer. “That root can switch off a wolf's power in combination with certain herbs, ive read it in books. Overusing it may end up spoiling the connection between the man and the wolf.”

Is that alright? He nodded, very serious. She held her hand near his and felt what was there. It was not absent. It was deep — very deep, pulled inward rather than outward, a root that had turned itself so far inside that the standard testing methods had found nothing because they were looking at the surface and the root was nowhere near the surface. It was the kind of root that needed something internal to activate it. Something real. She stood up and looked at his mother. 'He has a root,' she said simply. 'It is not absent. It is inverted. Turned inward instead of outward. He needs a different method.'

Dren murmured. “Yes,” I admitted. “But convincing lies are morale.” He groaned. We descended carefully, slow enough to stay alive but fast enough that our pursuers wouldn’t have time to get into position above us. Mara’s silhouette moved with controlled certainty. “Shift right. Use the root. It’s solid.” “That root?” I asked. “Yes.” “It looks cursed.” “It’s stronger than you.” “Rude.” “True.” Dren whispered, “Please stop… talking.” “Talking keeps you conscious,” I said.

I said to the others as I made my way to the tree. “Of course, the big spoony tree is the answer.” I heard Vanessa mutter. We all rushed to the trees and began to examine it. Its roots were thick and tangled with each other, weaving into the earth. Something about it felt… alive. Vanessa knelt next to me and ran her hand along one of the roots. “Wait… it's hollow underneath.” Rowan wasted no time in bringing out his sword and driving it in between the roots. I heard a…shriek.

* *zzz-swish*… Ravyn delivered an uppercut to the white energy figure’s chin and narrowly swayed away from his fists. After exchanging attacks for a moment, Weiss was kicked and his face turned to a power supply capsule that Kanji was trying to turn off. The young man's one hand held the power supply manual, and the other one held a small part of a yellowish-brown root. It's the same root that Ravyn bought from Themeise’s southern black market.
