She only ever cried when she was unable to sleep and was forced to think back on the interactions her dad had with her while he was still alive. Immediately, Scarlett stood from where she was sitting and faced Avery and Cornelia. "There is something I didn't tell you guys. Something strange happened to me last night, and you might not believe me when I tell you, so I will show you instead." "I'm lost. My apologies. Are you getting it?" Cornelia turned to ask Avery. "Shh. Cornel, let's pay attention to what she has to say." Scarlett held up her shirt to show her friends the scar left by the bite she got from the beast. "Do you think the paranormal is real?"

While the two fighters were chatting Manticat had broken in a fight with the squirrel. That hideous rodent had scratched him on his beautiful face and Manticat can't help but be thirsty for his blood. He chased that blasted acorn-loving pest into the forest and swung his scythe at him in a desperate attempt to kill him. The pest ran into the forest like the coward that he is but Manticat wouldn't let his prey get away unscathed. He will make his mother proud and offer her the heart of his enemy. Ruby will be pleased with his achievement.

"Cat scratch fever is no joke." The corner of his mouth curved into a heart-stopping smile. He straightened his arm out, emphasizing that I didn't need to worry. "Don't worry about me." I tilted my head to the side, a question falling passed my lips. "If you heal that fast, why do you have so many scars?" Well, that felt insensitive to say out loud, but Kit didn't seem remotely bothered by it. "My scars are from wounds that would have killed me if I was human."

"Because cats are a whole different breed. Did you have a bad experience with one?" Damn, he's good. Nodding, I say, "When I was ten. I tried to pick up a stray and it scratched the hell out of me." I turn my arms over to show him the light scars that you can still see. "I noticed those," he murmurs and lightly strokes his fingers along the thin, white tissue. Surprised, I pull my arm away from his touch before I begin to overheat. "Your turn," I murmur, trying to ignore the way my pulse speeds up at his touch.

It’s just like how I don’t like going to the dentist. “Are you liking your move so far?” Miss Redford, the cat owner asks, she’s very friendly and likes to talk. I don’t really mind so much as it fills the silences and I enjoy talking about crap as much as the next person. “So far it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.” I smile up at her and she grins wide. “Just ignore all the horror stories.” She laughs. I look up at her again. “Horror stories?” “Oh yeah.” She eagerly nods. “Wolves and kidnapping, it’s always been a little scary myth around here but that’s all it is.” She rolls her eyes. “Just old stories handed down in generations. No need to worry.”

Jain, but when he spun around, he saw it was Pakora—not a middle-aged man—who’d made him choke with fear. “Pakora.” He sighed and closed his shaking fingers around the key. “You scared the hell out of me,” he whispered, reaching down. Then he remembered the bite she’d given him. “Are you going to be nice this time?” The cat approached, ducking its head to receive strokes of affection, then did an abrupt change and sank its teeth into the soft spot between Jeff’s thumb and forefinger. Pain shot through the sensitive area, but instead of withdrawing, he left his hand in the cat’s mouth and squeezed. The cat shrieked, and Jeff twisted, snapping the creature’s neck in a fluid motion. Its jaw sla

He shook his head and said, "It's nothing. It's just a few scratches. Zoey's not that delicate." I used to be afraid of cats. Five years ago, a stray cat had pounced on me. The shock was so severe that I lost the baby I had been carrying for eight months.

The burning sting of claws again. This wasn’t normal. Ragdolls weren’t like this. It hurt my heart knowing Alaric had such a cute cat but it hated my guts. “Why.. stop!” My voice shook as I tried to push it back, but it was surprisingly strong. It clung to my sleeve, claws digging through the fabric and into my skin. I felt the scratch, sharp and hot. I panicked, prying it off and scrambling to my feet almost stumbling My guts told me to run so did I.

This was not the gaze of the father who told her bedtime stories about the Moon Goddess and her warriors, who had called her his greatest treasure. This was the gaze of a stranger. Explain. The demand rang in her skull though his lips had not moved. His Alpha aura pressed against her chest, demanding submission, demanding obedience. But how could she? How could she speak the truth? How could she stand before her father, before her entire pack, and admit that before her wolf even stirred awake, a shadow in the night had stolen everything? That a stranger no, a human had scarred her soul and branded her flesh? Her throat closed. Her tongue shriveled. Her lips moved but no sound came.

A sharp, high sound that might’ve been screaming or maybe glass breaking. I squeezed my eyes shut. “Stop.” “You had a scar,” Luca continued, his voice shaking now despite his effort to keep it steady. “Here.” He lifted his free hand, hovering near my left knee, not touching. “You fell chasing a cat in the courtyard.” My stomach twisted. I had that scar. I’d always had it. I told myself it was an accident. Some nameless fall from a nameless childhood I couldn’t remember. I opened my eyes. “How do you know that?” I whispered.
