In the blink of an eye, a dense black cloud of shadow erupted from her, engulfing her and Bryan. Both Sawyer and I were stunned. The scent of ozone was overpowering, and the darkness of the shadows was impenetrable. I couldn’t see what was happening inside of them, but I could hear Bryan’s screams rending the air. And then all at once, the shadows snapped back into Ember, and she fell to the ground, unconscious. It was as if a spell over us had been broken. I sped out of the room, moving as fast I could without shifting. Sawyer was slower, but I could hear him following behind me.

The shadow let out an unearthly shriek and dissipated into the air. Breathing hard, drenched in rain and sweat, Emma approached the node. It was a small, cylindrical device, glowing faintly, humming in sync with the shadows outside. She knew what to do. She connected her signal device, forcing its pulse into the node. The hum intensified, reverberating through her bones. The shadows outside twisted and shrieked, retreating into corners as the node’s connection faltered. Emma’s fingers ached, sweat and rain dripping down her arms, but she held firm. Finally, the hum steadied, the shadows froze, and the node went dark.

And the shadow knew it too. “Rowan,” Ember’s voice whispered from the edge of the porch, startling me. She knelt by the frost-covered ground, inspecting marks that hadn’t been there before small scratches on the snow, shallow, deliberate, unnatural. “It’s closer.” I exhaled slowly. “I know.”

“She was never yours.” The shadows laughed. “She will be. You saw it. I showed you what she could become—what you could become. Still, you cling to your weakness. Love. Loyalty. The old lies.” “Then let’s make a new lie,” Steve growled, stepping forward. “One where you lose.” The shadows lashed out. Steve was thrown back, crashing into a mirrored pillar. Emma didn’t scream. She stepped forward instead. The Heart Ember flared beneath her ribs, and fire spilled from her skin like light from a cracked star. The shadows hissed, retreating as she advanced.

She only thought about herself and what's good on her, She was more of the materialistic and egoist damsel, While Jacklyn was more the selfless, caring and humble damsel. The one thing he admires most about her is her ability to live through things, She's one hell of a strong lady. Being able to bear the gruesome hours at work seeing dead bodies and blood but still able to live through it and give justice to those victims, He admires her a lot and was sure to stick to her in whatever. Raverine's eyes turned bright, burning red, and sensed that the two shadow vampires in front of him are gone. "I can't see them..." Ember complained and kept her gun pointing in different directions where the masked individuals may attack. Raverine felt that one shadow vampire was rushing toward Mae and he instantly ran to dodge it for Ember, though he drank a one-year-old wine, shadow vampires are much stronger and faster than him. Raverine fired a bullet that killed the masked individual. But Raverine wasn’t able to see that the masked individual got past him before he killed him with his gun. Raverine heard Ember hissed in pain. Raverine looked at Mae and saw her bleeding shoulder.

There were cords which ran from the tangled image, stretching from it one way upward and the other down into the depths of the library's hidden chambers. 'What is he doing?' She watched him as he took a breath and slowly exhaled. As he did, there came a faint glow from beneath his palm. He removed his hand from the patterned wall, and she saw the shimmering light like liquid gold as it began to fill the carvings of a careful craftsman. The light flowed from the center of the pattern, making its way through the channels to the outside of the detailed stonework and out through the cords, carried by them in either direction.
