Shadows Of Deception
Pushing out my head mechanically like a robot.
“Yes,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sound of the rain.
The figure was hooded, the heavy rain dripping from the edges, obscuring their face in shadow.
I blinked against the rain, my pulse thrumming in my ears.
Then the figure pushed the hood back, revealing a familiar face beneath.
"James?" I breathed, a mix of surprise and relief flooding my chest.
"Oh my God, James Connor?"
His lips curled into a lopsided grin, one I remembered well from long shifts at the hospital, and he nodded.
