*Chapter 42: The map had twelve red marks. Now it had eleven. Aria stood over the table in the war room, the Foundry shard’s dust still clinging under her nails. The Oathbreaker was bound again, but the mark on her palm hadn’t faded. If anything, it glowed faintly when the Moonstone was near. “We move on the next one,” Aria said. Mirel tapped the map. “Western marshes. Cell calling themselves the Drowned Fang. Twelve wolves, last seen three days ago.”

"The sins committed by your family aren't yet been paid that much due to the aggravated damage your clan caused to our family. And I will start charging you with the debt." Shivers went down her spine. She was silent for a while and could not speak, did not know what to do. What is he exactly thinking to do to her? And why her?! She later tried to pull away from him. "Stop the car, and f*cking let me go!" But he didn't even move. He didn't really care as long as he could do whatever he was thinking of doing to her. She did not give up. She started to punch and slap his rock-like arms, but she only ended up hurting herself rather than hurting him.

"What do you want?" I took a breath. Time to play the part. "I want to help," I said. Gray's eyes narrowed. "Help with what?" "The Shadow Clan," I said. "I know where they're hiding." That got their attention. Both of them straightened. "How do you know that?" Aurora asked. "I followed them after the attack on Silver Moon," I said. It was the truth. Easier to lie when you mix in facts. "I found their lair. It's in the old battlefield ruins to the east."

I ask as I glance at Low; he shrugs his shoulders as if silently telling me he had no idea there was more than one location. “Oh hell yeah, we’ve taken down four other spots, all labs where they made the clones.” Rusty barks a laugh as he pulls a piece of paper from his pocket, he unfolds it to show me a bigger map than I’ve ever seen; it's easy to forget how big the country is when you never leave the Pack. I try to keep my surprise hidden as I look across the map to see four massive red crosses over four sites; that must be the place he has already taken down.

“Grab your gear. We’re heading out.” Back on the Trail – MoonClaw Ambush Zone Kieran moved, wild-eyed and limping, blood leaking from the arrow in his leg. The kind of pain that makes you want to scream, but he just gritted his teeth and shoved Jace behind an old log, hiding him under a mess of branches and darkness. He couldn’t take another hit. Not tonight. The MoonClaw freaks circled in, six of them, masks on and eyes lit up with that weird, not-quite-human shine. Magic. Always magic.

Then, the smell changes. A sharp, metallic tang cuts through the air. Pack borders. The steering wheel vibrates in my hands as the car hits a deep pothole, the suspension groaning as we bounce over the rough earth. A massive wooden archway appears through the mist ahead, the words Blue Claw carved deep into the rotting timber. Two large wolves emerge from the thick brush on the left, their fur matted with burrs and mud. They do not shift. They just stand on the grass verge, their yellow eyes tracking the car as we slow down to a crawl.

Green Dragon and Black Turtle hurriedly approach it. “This is the map of Snowy Mount Whiteface. The Snow Lotus is probably here.” Trine searched on the map, then he reached out and pointed at the location. Green Dragon looked at the point where Trine’s finger was. It was an intersection between Snowy Mount Whiteface and a place called the Sky Rift Valley. “This location is not far from us. Given the distance, if we drive that crappy truck of yours, we will be able to reach before dawn.” Black Turtle roughly estimated the distance and expressed his opinion.

As I hop out of my Range Rover, I see that a council elder is standing at the door waiting to greet me. It’s not a very far drive from Slick Paw to the council headquarters. Even though they have a chamber in Black Claw’s palace, their central offices are located about 2 hours away from our pack. It’s located on the edge of 4 pack territories and looks more like a four-story office building than anything else. From the outside and those not a part of the supernatural world, you would never know this is the seat of Wolf Nation, outside of our capital in Black Claw.

Sebastian agreed as he started opening up maps. There were four maps in total and mappings of different territories belonging to the wolves. They did not want to assume they might have gone straight to the human parts, knowing well enough that if a pack avoided humans more than Grimshaw of the crimson pack, it was the light claw.
