ASTRID. The room feels chilly all of a sudden. My eyes search around, my room looks tighter now, something panging at the base of my heart. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I opened the top of the box. I dump the contents on the table, there are a few notes, and some pictures, stickers, books and sorts, and I open the bulky book, my eyes swiping through the content. It’s a spell book, the words written in another language I can’t even read.

“Show me!” Molly exhaled shakily, then lowered her eyes. Her fingers brushed over the cracked leather binding, then carefully opened the book. The sound of the old spine creaking echoed through the library. She flipped through brittle, yellowed pages until she stopped, pressing her palm against one as though steadying herself. She angled it so I could see.

As if the owner had to leave in a hurry. If this is the place she writes down all her important stuff… then it just might be what we need to find t “Maybe we’ll find something inside…” I say aloud. I reach forward and slide a finger beneath the makeshift bookmark. I flip it and the book falls open with a quiet snap. Handwritten ink sprawls across the paper. I try to read what’s in it. Dom also glances at the open page, when suddenly- his face tightens. Then everything explodes into motion.

They had already gone through ten books, but Syanna felt like it was right under her nose. Then it hit her. Right under her nose. She glanced down at the spot she took the dragon book from, skimming the shelf for anything about vampires. Her heart leapt when she spotted a red book, with black lines all connecting to the centre where a ‘V’ sat. “This has to be it,” she mumbled to herself. “It has to be.” But as she tried to pry It open, the book wouldn’t budge. She dug her fingers between the pages, trying desperately to get it open, but it wouldn’t move.

I felt glass hit my skin and I smelled blood, Coral growled. I winced as it seemed like I twisted my ankle, and Coral got busy trying to heal us. When I looked down at my hand, it was on the book. I grabbed it and struggled to my feet. “I have it, now what,” I shouted, as Katrina’s hand landed on my arm again. I saw her holding the large heavy book from the display. *The boy! Something about the boy I think, find that page,* Coral yelled. I was nearly afraid to open the book, what if the pages ripped out in the wind?

"I got the book!" Shayla tried and failed to hide the colossal smile that lit up her features. "At least open the book first, Cameron." I flipped the book over in my hands, and that's when I noticed it — a bulge in between the pages. When I opened the book, it fell open naturally to the bulging thing stuffed in between the pages, and when I saw what it was — my mouth fell open. All the tensions and anxiety of this past week melted away to give in space for pure joy and giddiness.

' I ask looking from her to the book. 'OPEN IT IF YOU DARE' the cover page read. It was a thick book that could easily fit in a baby tortoise. 'It's the dare book' she says and bursts out laughing. 'So?' I ask her irritated by her stupidity. 'I want you to open it' she says twinkling her eyes. 'Why should I do it?' 'Because I asked you to' she giggles. 'Whatever!' I say and approach to open the cover page but a sudden idea flashes through my head.

She could not risk walking into the light to feed her curiosity so she held on to the corner of a shelf and leaned out the corner as far as she could. Just then her fingers brushed one of the books off the shelf. She gasped and reached out to catch it before it fell, chest heaving at the thought of being caught by the prince again. She held her breath and released it slowly, only then realizing that she had closed her eyes and was pressing a hand to her chest, and when she opened them she stared at the thin wooden cover of the book that had fallen off the shelf. “The pages are blank.” “That’s what makes it useful.” He hovered his hand over a page of the book and murmured some words. The page glowed white light. “The light is an indication. It’s ready to answer my question. We get to ask a question per month. We only have one shot at this.” Lexa looked at the book, waiting for Elliot to say something. “O mighty book of answers; tell us how the gate of Seareign can be opened!” The glowing light stopped. A black and white picture was painted on the book by an imaginary hand. The picture of a snake was formed.
