Day twenty-six. The NPR interview airs at 7 PM. We listen from the warehouse, surrounded by our makeshift family. Mom drove down from the safe house. Harper and Brandon sit with laptops ready to monitor reactions. Even Viktor joins via video call from Moscow. "Are you ready?" Mom asks, squeezing my hand. "No," I admit. "But let's do it anyway." Ira Glass's voice fills the room. Familiar. Comforting. Then ours. Our story, distilled into fifty-three minutes of truth.

I know a slut when I see one. The whole 101 corp is no longer what it used to be. The Magazine only preaches nudity as fashion and gossip as news. I still run my podcast now called Angels and Demons Corner every Saturday night at eight from the comfort of my Bedroom. It's a channel where I discuss relationship dooms and how to amend those that can still be salvaged. I intend to quit 101 in six months and invest fully on the channel. Six more months and I'm done with 101 Corp.

“What? Who brews their coffee for six minutes? Why the fuck would you brew my coffee for six minutes?” “But that’s what’s written in the email sir, I can show you…” I brought out my phone to show him but he just yelled “Get the fuck out of my office and make sure my schedule is ready in the next five minutes!” I scurried out of his office and when I had arrived in my office, I went over the email again and there it was ‘brew for six minutes’ it was written boldly. This must be his way of making me miserable, that asshole. Like the end of a very long, complicated piece of music and you're finally at the last measure. I looked at that message for a while. What comes after the last measure, I typed. Silence, he said. And then you decide what to play next. I set the phone face down on the table. I picked it back up. Room 214 tonight. Six o'clock. His reply was immediate. I'll be there. I put the phone in my bag and walked out of the library into the October afternoon. Six weeks until the audition. Something that had been waiting for the right moment was starting to understand that the right moment wasn't some future point where everything was resolved and safe and certain. The right moment was now.

It is Dom Pearce. "Podcast drops tomorrow. Six am. Thought you should know before you wake up to it. Also heads up, it is getting pre-release attention I did not expect. Someone shared the preview clip. It has forty thousand views already and it has been live for three hours." I read it twice. Forty thousand views. In three hours. Before it even releases. I look up at the warm kitchen, at Margaret and Patrick and Rhys and Arlo, at the Wednesday evening holding all of them, and I think about tomorrow morning and forty thousand people becoming four hundred thousand and what happens after that.

The notes say everything is on track. Six weeks.
