“He’s been through hell and back.”
Images flickered through my mind.
Everything he had endured.
Everything he had carried.
Everything he had stood through without breaking.
“He has been through enough,” I said, more firmly now. “So why can’t he reach it?”
My essence looked at me for a long moment.

Not amused.
Not distant.
