They did, trembling.
That night, a fire burned outside the shack. Shadows flickered. He cleaned his blades slowly, methodically.
One man stepped forward from the darkness, unarmed, calm. “I’ve come to see if the rumors are true.”
“Rumors?”
“They say the Valenti blood is alive again. That the bastard carries it in his hands.”
