Vincent growled at them, “Back off.” But the largest fox, with black fur and fiery eyes, let out a low growl. Its voice was rough, each word appearing to grind out from between its teeth. “We don’t hunt shadows. We hunt prey that lingers…like a bride who survives but does not truly live.” Camela felt her knees weaken beneath her. “They’re saying I’m not enough.” Vincent caught her quickly, baring his teeth at the foxes. “She’s mine. Whether she’s living or just surviving, she is mine.”

“Most people would still be stumbling around, but you’re already keeping pace with me.” I gave a small smile, breath catching in the cool night air. “Guess I’m a fast learner.” “You always were,” he replied, tossing me a water bottle. “But this… this is something else. You’re adapting like you were born for it.” I took a sip, then tilted my head, focusing on the sounds in the woods. “There’s something out there. A fox, I think. About twenty yards northeast.” Kiran blinked. “You sure?” “Positive.”

The growl of the stag blended harmoniously with their voices, creating a symphony that resonated in their ears. Having satisfied their craving for the chase, they came to a halt simultaneously. However, the animal they pursued continued to elude them, eventually seeking refuge among the rocks where other creatures sought shelter for the night. Observing the small animals scattering for safety, the werewolves concealed themselves once again. Their amusement peaked when they witnessed a bold fox standing its ground, seemingly challenging the intruder for disturbing its peaceful slumber.
