Nothing can be seen beyond except blue skies and scudding clouds.
I walk on, aiming almost without thinking about it, for the huge trees concealing the far end of the garden.
The trees… They frame the garden and the skies above it. An ancient yew towers above me. An oak, huge and gnarled, stretches great arms over the earth, bare and dry, crunchy with acorns and cups. From one great horizontal branch, as thick as my body, the remains of ropes dangle. A child's swing maybe?
