DOUBLE HEIR ; A LOVE IN DISGUISE
ELENA'S POV
I lay there, staring blankly at the ceiling, my mind stuck on repeat.
The white tiles above me seemed to melt together, like a painting left out in the rain, their straight lines dissolving into wavy patterns that danced every time I blinked. The harsh fluorescent light overhead didn't help, casting an unforgiving glare that made my eyes ache.
I felt lost in the glare, trapped in this small, sterile space with nothing but my thoughts for company. The beeping machines, the quiet hum of the air conditioning, it all blended into the background noise of my own personal chaos.
